I would like to think there is an option to extend . As always I suppose it was down to money . In the Summer Moncur and Pigott will be completely off our payroll and we'll know more about our other high earners Archibald and Graham . I'm sure things will sort themselves outHoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 11:21 am Well we need to sort that out right f*cking now after Williams performance last night.

Also don't forget to consider what happens if we find ourselves in the Championship next season .....Just a thought .

Re: Theo and Graham
Fairly common in lower league football now and can suit both club and player. We might have been unsure exactly how much game time he will get with O'Neil coming back from injury as well as Markanday, Ageyi returning from injury and Abdulai able to play in the same position. Signing him for 6 months is like a glorified trial. Also from the players point of view, he might think he is above Orients level but playing regularly for 6 months will give him the chance to impress.

Re: Theo and Graham
Williams is an interesting one though, as he will be so motivated to not only play well for us but himself too, whether he would do that next season with a solid contract, who knows

Another being that within our wage structure he's on something akin to championship money. We go up and we can afford him; we stay in L1 and he may have to adjust his salary expectations if he wants to stay with us.

Yep, I suspect it's this. Six months on big bucks to get the job done, then both parties re-assess.LittleMate wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:11 pmAnother being that within our wage structure he's on something akin to championship money. Re: Theo and Graham
Presumably bigger clubs have sustainable budgets precisely because they don’t fork out wages on knackered players who can’t play?
Sounds harsh, but it’s a ruthless business.

Re: Theo and Graham
Yep sadly players come n go, some as hero's, some as villain's, however when they have to leave, as contracts are not renewed due to injury, its harsh, but it happens in football all the time.
If they do not have their contracts renewed and they leave at the end of the season, I hope they both find clubs.
Theo, had a great couple of good seasons for us, and at times was our main attacking threat, and was and will remain a fans fav.
Graham, played 20+ games for O's had a few good games, but never was a 1st team regular, after his injuries, I hope he finds a club and plays again.
End of day, Leyton Orient is a club/biz, and will always be here (we hope), players come n go all the time.
And on last nights showing, 100% agree Hoover & Turk, we need to get Williams signed up on a longer deal ASAP, he can play either wing, and has pace to burn!

It was the player's choice. Williams want to leave his options open for next season.

Re: Theo and Graham
Don't forget that come the seasons end we will be losing Keely, Donley, Currie and Kelman. 4 very important players for us at the moment and only the slightest possibility of signing 2 of them permanently. We might have a bit of luck that the other two may be reloaned to us if we happen to get promoted. So if Theo can completely recover and regain his form then we may keep him. As for JG, I don't know.

Re: Theo and Graham
If you take the sentiment out of those two players as people and have these options for next season for, say £8k a week which are you picking?
a) give contracts to player(s) with two recurrences of a serious knee injury, both heading towards wrong side of 30 who most likely won't be ready for pre-season
b) sign one of the recent loanee wingers on a permanent deal

Re: Theo and Graham
Think it covers the final 6months of his Bolton contract, so they get him off the books, he doesn’t lose any contractual coverage and probably gets an additional signing on fee and Orient get a low risk upgrade. Both can take stock in the summer.Turk wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 11:47 amFairly common in lower league football now and can suit both club and player. Srong language. Williams wants to play in the championship. He won’t sign anything before the end of this season.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 11:21 am Well we need to sort that out right f*cking now after Williams performance last night.

He’s also played one game for us. We’ll see what we’ve got in the next few weeks

RW said Williams only wanted a contract to the end of the season, in the same way Simpson declined the offer of a two year contract for a 12 month deal. They both want to play championship football which is fair enough. 6 months is a win/win he does well and hopefully we get into the play-offs and win them in which case he might well stay. If not he's playing regularly and putting himself in the shop window and we have a very good player for the run in.

Re: Theo and Graham
Archibald is 26. That's a prime age for a footballer. I'd personally be happy for him to get another years deal (if we don't get promoted) and hope he still has something to offer as I think he's a very good person to have around the dressing room.gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 6:28 pm If you take the sentiment out of those two players as people and have these options for next season for, say £8k a week which are you picking?

If it doesn't work out in the first 6 months, then a loan or perm deal elsewhere can be on the cards.
Graham's future I suspect will be in the National League. I don't imagine he'd be playing league football in future.

Re: Theo and Graham
Did he say specifically it was because they wanted championship football? Or are we making an assumption?
Could be that he has kids in school up north, or wants a signing in fee in the summer, or simply wants to garner what interest there is in him

Re: Theo and Graham
Can’t see JG playing again at this level, 30 next month and a career littered with injuries. Feel sorry for the guy, seems a real good guy who’s been very unlucky with injuries. But there’s no way he’s going to get another contract from us. Best we can offer is some level of continuing support. I think he could have a career in media, very good in the Orient studio.
As for dear Theo, 27 next month, should be in his prime. Player c 100 games for us. I can’t see he will be given another contract, effectively we gave him this years one with no realistic expectation that he would be able to contribute much. Again, I feel some level of continuing support is the best we can do.
I wish both of them all the best.

are either of williams or simpson championship quality tho? they were both rotation options in the championship and have they improved since then?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 10:37 amThis.moonwalk19 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:25 amSrong language. Re: Theo and Graham
Simspson is our 3rd or 4th best defender.
Williams looked good in the week and was quiet today.
I can’t see Championship clubs lining up to take either.

Theo was there at the entrance to the tunnel area as the Os team came off the pitch, celebrating with them. No Graham though.

I saw Graham sitting in the stand with the other players not involved. Was wearing a Lacoste beanie hat
