Re: Considering adopting Leyton Orient as my team
My first thought was that this post smacks of a regular posting Tottenham fan on a wind up with a new alias.
But, if it’s not, then welcome to Orient. It’s a very special club.
Agreed with those percentages of the supporter base.
So many people priced out of watching local big guns matches or wish to support a team in a city they’ve moved to make up a lot of the new support. Also those disenfranchised from the money and greed of the top flight.
Orient is an excellent day out with friendly fans, excellent pubs (make sure you go and see Tuesday at the Northcote on match day) and decent eateries near the ground.
I’d suggest a Saturday 15:00 ko but we’ve only had 2 of those since the start of the season (I’m not joking) so Cambridge at Sunday 29th would be a good debut. Or wait until the Derby cup match.

East Stand for oldies? Not sure I agree. Loads of youngsters sit around me. A very hip crowd of the Francis Road brigade sit in my row and lots of others behind.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 11:52 amTo actually answer your questionsBum_Chinned_Crab wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 10:50 am Alright,
I have moved to E11 in the past couple of months and, as the subject states, I'm now looking for a club to adopt. Geography states that this should be Leyton Orient.
So what do I need to know before I dive in headfirst for a lifetime of abject mediocrity? My knowledge so far amounts to red shirts and a stint in charge on Football Manager, when James Brophy was quite the assist king cutting in from the wing.
* What is the current crop of players like?
* Who are the rising talents to keep an eye on?
* Are we pro the management and owners or do I need to say their names through gnashing teeth?
* Who exactly do we hate - is it West Ham or is that not relevant as we (listen to me, we...) rarely cross paths?
* Who are the legends that I should speak about in misty eyed tones? (RIP Justin Edinburgh)
* Should I refer to them as Orient, Leyton, or Leyton Orient? Or just the Os?
* And when would be a good occasion to make my debut? I was thinking Boxing Day but family committments have now ruined this, so might look at Dec 29th vs Cambridge.
Please don't reply with the usual 'don't bother and save yourself from years of torture' etc etc, I'm a lifelong Hull City fan who has been through it all - crowds under 4 figures, owners locking us out of our own stadium, bottom of the entire league with 1 month of the season to go etc.
Cheers

Current team is good but shallow and lacks a striker
Pro manager who doesn’t get enough backing from the board but the chairman is a local fan so gets a pass. The Director of Football who has achieved three promotions in various guises comes in for a lot of of slack. The main bank roller pulled his money in the summer
No rivalries really given West Ham, Brentford etc have pulled away. A section of the fan base dislike whoever Steve Evans happens to be managing
Club legends of late Edinburgh, Kevin Lisbie, Scott McGleish and Gianvito Plasmati
Orient or Os
Whenever the next Saturday game you can do. Book in advance, North stand for families, East for old people and people that aren’t season ticket holders, south for chanting and having a pub in the stand, West for average people and watching Mat R***r
From experience, most of the Coffin Dodgers sit in the West and have trouble with the stairs.

The main benefit of sitting in the West Stand is that you don't have to look at it.
But, wherever you choose to sit, make sure you enter the prize draw every game.

Who says it's wrong?Bum_Chinned_Crab wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 1:45 pmJust because lots of people get it wrong - such as in the examples you use - that doesn't make it acceptable to adopt them.
This is sooner than I intended for a grammar argument, tbh.

Strange but nobody has mentioned the infamous Orient Initiation Ceremony?
On the third minute of your first game you have to run across the pitch screaming ‘Cox! Cox!’
Only then will you be accepted and the full significance of this rite be explained to you.
Otherwise, welcome!!

Nah seriously, I've lived in Yorkshire all my life until late September when I moved to Wanstead. Balls going to West Ham even if I could get a ticket and I'm not hipster enough, or can be arsed, to go to Dulwich Hamlet.LPE wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 2:41 pm My first thought was that this post smacks of a regular posting Tottenham fan on a wind up with a new alias.

Also forgot to mention the other thing I know about Orient is, obviously, "and you can bring your dinner." But I assume this is exceptionally droll to reference.

I supported The Tigers, for family reasons, in the 60's then discovered Orient via Spurs. Have been to the old Boothferry Park a lot of times and the old Boulevard. Was at Wembly for the play off promotion to the premier league. No need for reasons, just turn up. I should add I was at Boothferry when Orient won, a match around 1999 which turned out to be their last away win for about 50 games ( a run ended by Alex Ingelthorpe at Northampton I believe.

You are aware, I hope, that there is always a drum leading the fans?
That makes supporting Orient a non-starter for me I'm afraid. In spite of many other fine things
It's a bit Jimmy Saville or something - lovely bloke, raised loads for charity, as long as you ignore the sexual predation/Machiavellianism/drum
