Can’t afford to sack Wellens
The best we’ve had in a very long time. The board apparently said they will back him in the transfer market and then dump on him. He’s been given rubbish players that cost nothing because we can’t compete with BIG clubs and they expect him to perform miracles.
The club have no money to buy players, so how can they afford to pay him off?

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
If you look at the 3 permanent managers since Justin passed a pattern emerges:
1. Fletcher: correctly identified that the squad needed improvement which the club establishment (Ling et al) didn’t like. He was swiftly forced out
2. Jackett: results took a huge dip after a disastrous January transfer window filled with bargain bin signings and crap loans. Cost KJ his job
3. Wellens: well and truly stitched up after signing a new contract with a disastrous summer transfer window which followed a terrible January window. And it looks like RW is about to be the next one out the door.

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
Indeed and it's a waste of time sacking another manager anyway. Jackett got given a series of terrible signings and look what his sacking cost.
Save the money of yet another settlement and make changes at the top as recruitment is clearly not good enough.
Edit: got it spot on Reverend, this pattern needs to break

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
Ling, Foster and whoever else is involved in that recruitment team all well past their sell-by date. Give Wellens control and then he can sink or swim on his own merits

Thing is if Wellens is doing his managers job, he cannot be off scouting for players as well and also arranging the new and existing player contracts.

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
If LING has to stay let him just do the paperwork ( please sign on the dotted line ) - don’t let him give any advice on who to sign! RW doesn’t have to scout - he knows a good player - all he has to do is say yes or no to any players offered to him.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:16 pmThing is if Wellens is doing his managers job, he cannot be off scouting for players as well and also arranging the new and existing player contracts.

II'll make this prediction. If Richie gets the sack we will definitely 100% get relegated this season .The Reverend wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 4:50 pm If you look at the 3 permanent managers since Justin passed a pattern emerges:

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
You have to go and watch them play first, cant just go by players he used to have play for him as in the case of Jaiyesimi who once played for RW and rated highly !cockhat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:30 pmIf LING has to stay let him just do the paperwork ( please sign on the dotted line ) - don’t let him give any advice on who to sign! He won't be sacked until we look proper doomed. His new contract is big, the board love him and the situation we're in is not dissimilar to where we were this time last season.

If he gets who he wants in January we probably stay up.

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
Why would we want to get rid of Wellens, best manager we've had since Russell Slade, no disrespect to Justin.
It's Martin Ling & the so called transfer committee we need to get rid of first.
Also who is out there anyway to replace Ritchie?
Easy for supporters to keep saying 'sack Ritchie' but they never back it up with who to replace him with

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
JE and RW both right up there, both came into the club in similar circumstances needing to rescue a failing squad and both delivered their respective league titles. Can't call it between them on who would be better, sadly Justin never got his chance to shine in the EFL.North Stand Dave wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:51 pm Why would we want to get rid of Wellens, best manager we've had since Russell Slade, no disrespect to Justin.

When you have a manager who has delivered success clearly being hampered by the processes around him there's no point in changing the manager and leaving the rest as-is.

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
RW has misspent his budget
We need a winger and a forward
I doubt we can afford to sack him

It’s worrying that some people can’t see Wellens is the best manager we’ve had since Slade.

NT is too soft on ML - needs to call him to account. We could do more if his salary was available for the squad. The honeymoon is well and truly OVER!

Wellens doesn’t deserve to be sacked, he’s doing better than most would with our sub standard squad.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:37 pm He won't be sacked until we look proper doomed. Recruiting has been poor, it’s players that need replacing not the manager.

Steve Davis was so memorable that his short reign is forgotten. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 4:50 pm If you look at the 3 permanent managers since Justin passed a pattern emerges:

As for being stitched up, that is nonsense. Wellens knew the division and knew how much tougher it would be. After January he had control of the signings. I will stand by Wellens - who has produced the best football I've seen in 30 years here - until the naysayers force the board to let him go but you cannot ignore the part he's had to play in the signings over the summer. Kelman, Warrington, DJ and Ball are all his. Donley he would never have disagreed with (although he'd be disappointed by what he's got from him).

Difference being one was semi successful and they other one is failing badly.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:52 pm It’s worrying that some people can’t see Wellens is the best manager we’ve had since Slade.

It’s the players, or at least some of them that are failing and need replacing, Not RW.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:45 pmDifference being one was semi successful and they other one is failing badly.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:52 pm It’s worrying that some people can’t see Wellens is the best manager we’ve had since Slade.

Re: Can’t afford to sack Wellens
I wouldn’t say Slade failed badly. Granted he never won a title but reaching the play offs with that budget was commendable.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:45 pmDifference being one was semi successful and they other one is failing badly.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:52 pm It’s worrying that some people can’t see Wellens is the best manager we’ve had since Slade.

Realism is , no budget for major changes. I’d imagine one or two out and one in probably
