I just don't get what Wellens see's in Kelman. Up top he's just below average, and out wide he's well below average.

Up til the goal I was aghast at how inept Happe seems to have become. He was doing a more than passable impersonation of Cooper in the first half

Agreed. Only once did he lose possession / get caught out against a real handful. A lesser players would have been murdered by Malik.

I don’t think anyone said he was great. I agree with you. Just thought he didn’t give many fouls for diving and falling over.
Someone said he was the best ref we’ve had.

He was also very wobbly in possession on Saturday. Maybe he’s not fully over the ‘concussion’ that kept him out for weeks.

Kelman is a work horse not unlike Ruel.

I think he really needs to work on his aerial ability. He seems to spend so much effort backing and jumping into his marker. I think if he jumped for the ball now and then he actually might win a few headers…..
He’s five foot eight. He’s never, ever going to win a header against your average 6 foot plus centre half. Never.

He’s not trying to win the header. He’s trying to stop them winning it cleanly, forcing an error from them.

Sounds like a very Evans friendly set of ratings. All our defenders were so good keeping them at bay. 😃

You might be too young to remember, but Alan Hull was no more than 5’8” and won plenty of headers. He menaced the centre backs. I don’t recall him ever trying to back into his defender like Kelman. I don’t think I have seen him win possession using that tactic once. Maybe he should try something else?

He probably is the best ref we have had for a while. That doesn’t necessarily mean he was great. Just better than the others……

Yes, I remember Alan Hull.

Yes, I’ve seen him stop defenders winning free headers with this tactic. It’s pretty routine and he’s not going to change it - Ruel used to have to do exactly the same.

Well I will bow down to your superior knowledge then as I am yet to see him win a header. Mark Hughes was brilliant at it. Kelman should try something else.

Alan Hull still occasionally comes to support the O's, saw him in the West stand last season.
He looked well and at least 5' 8 1/2"

As mentioned elsewhere I would drop him to the bench and use him as a second half impact sub .

Funny how people see things, a 5 for Tom James & a 6 for Currie, yet both made League 1 team of the week

Some people have better leaps than others, I guess? Scott McGleish springs to mind.

Yup if we needed an aerial attack coach haven't seen anyone better at it than McGleish

You’re absolutely right. McGleish was a fine player. I go right back to my original point. I have never seen Kelman jump let alone leap. Have a try Charlie.

Good comment with some good ideas. IMO Obeiro is a good young player and also has an eye for goal, should feature in the team more often than he does at present. Also good point here ''Kelman needs resting and would be an impact sub. The reality is, if he wasn’t Richie’s pet project he wouldn’t be starting'' Yes seems like Kelman IS Richie's pet project, well put !!.
