Ratings (v Rotherham)
Keeley 6.5 - didn’t really have much to do but did the basics adequately (including snuffing out some crosses). Hasn’t really been tested yet but you get the feeling he’s much better than Hemming.
James 5 - a typical “I can’t be bothered with this” TJ performance. Long balls to nobody, that weird cross that went straight out for a gk when he could have had a shot, picked up a booking. At one point he took a throw in and chucked it straight into Pratley’s stomach.
Beckles 7.5 - solid. Dealt with a physical team very well
Happe 7 - bit ropey in the first half. Reminded us that he can be an asset from set pieces
Currie 6 - the option we have at LB. Does offer something going forwards but gets caught out every now and then. Pretty strong for a relatively small guy. He’ll struggle against better wingers though.
Pratley 7.5 - the man who doesn’t age. Didn’t stop running the whole time he was on the pitch. His dark arts and experience really helped us as well. Winning cheeky free kicks here and there.
Brown 6 - I often forget he’s on the field.
Kelman 6 - lot of running but no end product. He doesn’t belong on the wing.
Galbraith 7.5 - covers so much ground. Decent on the ball. Clearly orients best player at the moment
O’Neill 6.5 - looked a bit better last night and got himself in some goal scoring positions. Still nowhere near his best from last season
Agyei 6 - things just aren’t working out for him at the moment. Don’t know what’s going on but there were times last season where he was unplayable. Ball glued to his feet kind of stuff. Doesn’t seem to be able to get past a big standard L1 CB these days.
Subs - n/a didn’t have time to impact game. Were mainly bought on to waste time
Rotherham - crap. Think Fatty Evan’s time might be up there. Fans not happy at full time, booing the players and Stevie getting belted on social media.
Ref 8.5 - best ref we’ve had in ages. Handled the sh*thousery well, tried to let play go on and didn’t fall for the Rotherham tricks.

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
Agree, thought the ref was pretty good. Didn’t give fouls for diving to the ground which was quite refreshing.
I think that’s O’Neill’s best game this season. Could have taken a shot first half but overall miles better.
Harsh on Currie I think. I thought he had a decent game. Really adds something to the team.
I don’t think anyone let us down.

Based on second half, ref was awful. Letting players get away with ridiculous pushes and pulls.

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
The performances of most of the refs I've seen do our games this season have seemed completely random and left me with little idea of what is, or isn't, a foul these days. Last night's was no exception.

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
There has been an instruction to allow a bit more physicality in the game. The problem - as always - is refs have never played football and don’t understand pretty basic stuff.
I know it’s not a new suggestion but we really need to get more ex footballers to take it up.

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
I don’t recall shouting at the tv suggesting the referee resembles female genitalia. That to me speaks volumes. I thought he did ok. Did his best to let the game flow.
Recall a moment when he allowed an advantage and then brought it back when none occurred.
I liked him.

Thought O'Neill, Curry and Galbraith were our liveliest players. The rest meh. We got away with a couple of chances Rotherham had.

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
Thanks for the ratings.
I think they are in the right ball park, a little harsh on James perhaps, but take your point. Currie had his hands full, their right winger I felt always looked likely to threaten us. It has felt as if Agyei and O’Neill have gone backwards since last season, though the latter showed a few better signs last night on occasions.
As to the ref, he did try to let the game flow, missed a few things as a result, but compared to others he did better than most.

Don’t think Agyei and O’Neill actually played a game together last season. May be something in that?

Ageyi and O'Neill have been shuffled around a lot up top which probably hasn't helped, particularly for the latter. He's not actually had a decent run of games playing on the left cutting in.

Agyei played his best for us up top on his own where he can isolate a CB and beat them with his pace and strength. O'Neill has played his best for us wide left, cutting in onto his right. The 4-3-3 formation we were using last season suited their games perfectly.
This season, I don't believe we've once played a 4-3-3... We've settled on a 4-2-3-1 (but were also playing a 4-2-2-2 at some points). The wide players are much more narrow in this formation so even when playing left (he has also been on the right a fair bit), ONeill is playing a different role to last year. Same with Dan, who has spent most of the season either wide left or right, up top with Kelman in a pair, or the odd occassion he has played up top alone, he's had people around him.
Ollie and Dan need to be cut some slack as they adapt to their new roles (or we go back to how we played last season but that involves dropping Kelman which I can't see happening).

Curry 6 seems harsh? He was our best player for parts, some brilliant touches and he barely lost a duel. The Reverend wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 8:49 am Keeley 6.5 - didn’t really have much to do but did the basics adequately (including snuffing out some crosses). Currie was up against Malik Wilks who's decent, on loan from Sheff Wed I think and caused Posh a lot of trouble. Thought he kept him well quiet

I agree . Richie can always bring on Kelman for Agyei in the second half . Kelman would be fresh so could make a positive impact against a tiring defenceHoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 12:13 pmThis.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 11:41 am Ageyi and O'Neill have been shuffled around a lot up top which probably hasn't helped, particularly for the latter. James gets a 5 and Happe a 7? Happe made at least 3 mistakes in the first half but I'm guessing you gave him 2 marks for scoring a free header. The Reverend wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 8:49 am

Brown was the man who broke the Rotherham press. Once we got on top of that problem, we got on top of the game.
Kelman was asked to do a job and worked hard but this was a physical game in which he largely went missing.

Kelman needs resting and would be an impact sub. The reality is, if he wasn’t Richie’s pet project he wouldn’t be starting. Problem is we have no real options. Playing Obeiro might be the only one but it’s not a perfect fit. He give you something different though

If the ref was so great, why did we see play halted twice for non-head-injuries? The game continues until the ball is out of play or another incident halts it.
Or has some woke numpty changed the Laws?

Re: Ratings (v Rotherham)
If you analyse the season as a whole so far, with the exception of Shrewsbury, big defeat and Stockport, big win- every other game could’ve gone either way.
We’ve just been on the wrong side of it a few times but you’d have to suggest therefore we’ve been a tad unlucky. Last night was bound to come around and I think we’ll have a few more of those this season

Another vote for Currie, who I thought had a good game.
On the other flank, Tom James is an enigma really. Steady-ish bar the odd mistake (which he made last night) but you always get the feeling there's more to come (which seldom arrives).
He could go higher for sure I think (Championship), but just seems to be one of those players that doesn't like football much.
We did of course win (and he provided the winner) so I'm not gonna be too harsh on the bloke but he must frustrate RW at times..

I think he really needs to work on his aerial ability. He seems to spend so much effort backing and jumping into his marker. I think if he jumped for the ball now and then he actually might win a few headers…..
