Privatisation as answer to the nation's decay?
Starmer seems to think so.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... -blackrock
Seems that our current political leaders STILL are determined to do so, despite all the evidence of how privatisation has impoverished/ destroyed national assets, services and resources and life's basic essentials.
Yet Starmer is still advocating more of it!
No wonder he went to such extremes to try and wipe out the public desires for Corbynism!

National assets such as the health service and social care that haven't been privatised aren't exactly thriving either.

Such a mind bottling argument to buy into: "hey, look at this thing that successive Governments have ruined via savage cuts and wilful underinvestment - it's not looking too healthy so maybe privatisation is the answer?"

One thing worth remembering ( when you are as old as me ), is that Nationalised industries were subjected to a lot of jiggery pokey by the incumbent Government. When inflation was high, whatever Government tended to take a tough line with State Unions, even if their particular side of industry was raking in the money. This led to a lot of unrest. Also the price of the commodity could be calculated to suit the Government's needs rather than the Market's need. But overall, a lot of the Nationalised Industries made a lot of dough for the Government. That's why Thatcher sold them off to her mates. That's why the UK is short of dough. The Tories always downplayed the profitability of these industries and made & song & dance about any problems. Making it easy to sell to their mates.

But as we now see: the government's needs are not necessarily the same as the public's needs.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 10:34 amGood.Friend or faux wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 10:29 amAlso the price of the commodity could be calculated to suit the Government's needs rather than the Market's need.

So many of the industries were sold to financial interests abroad, also.Friend or faux wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 10:29 am One thing worth remembering ( when you are as old as me ), is that Nationalised industries were subjected to a lot of jiggery pokey by the incumbent Government. You are here to do as you are told and to give international finance capital access to super profits from public services as the rate of return on capital in private markets continues to fall.

Do what I'm going to do tomorrow. Add a new category to the bottom of the ballot paper by either writing in something like "A democratic socialist party" or "none of the kunts above"

It would be easier if you voted for your local Tory ( you know that's what you really want )
