More fool us
Yes, with hindsight it cost us but at least we are honest which is a commendable attribute . I'm glad we are like that then not.
Being honest and commendable doesn't get you the 3 points though. If Rovers come down with a stronger squad on the Tuesday and turn us over it's gamesmanship perfectly executed.

It's the off the field equivalent of a last man professional foul, clubs know the EFL are toothless so are playing the system to suit themselves. As SF has mentioned on posts above Rovers have played the game very sneakily to make it look legit up to this morning but likely knowing full well they were never going to play the game today.

Am I right in thinking since 2020 we're the only English club to have lost a game due to covid forfeiture?

The tweet is a piss take - Barton is the manager, Gorringe is their CEO, Al-Qadi is their owner and Anderton was apparently their only fit defender!!

I have a significant journey each time I go to a home game and I have to find cover for domestic issues when I do. On the basis of the more positive messages that had been coming out over the last 2 days I made appropriate arrangements and left home to star my journey. I travel on my own, had to drive today given the lack of trains on a New Year’s Day, and had to go through a number of areas where this is no mobile signal. Phone pinged at 11.00 when I was already well on the way to the ground with this frustrating news. Time and money lost that I can’t recover.

From what I am reading this seems to have been a late and unilateral decision presumably taken by their manager/goalkeeper/sociopath. The EFL will deal with this as effectively as they always do (ie nothing) and I will for the coming weeks probably decide not to bother to consider attending given COVID uncertainty (ie the EFL not having the balls to stand up for fans). I understand that games will need to be called off but the new protocol of not testing on a Saturday was designed to give greater certainty. Friday at the latest has to be the norm. Sorry but it has been abused here and I am also now deciding whether to renew my Season Ticket given the shower of poo poo that manage our great game and their contempt for fans. Just another in the long line of things I have had to cancel in the last nearly 2 years. Keeping going is tough and the prospect of live football today was exciting but what do any of us fans count.
101% This.
I’m beginning to lose my enthusiasm as instances like this are just taking the piss out of good loyal fans of both Orient and Bristol Rovers. They obviously had no intention of playing the game today and leaving the decision so late will cost a lot of people a lot of money.
If they usually stay in a hotel for this fixture then why didn’t they today ??
Our wonderful supporters club have apparently donated the food that was to have been sold today from the bar to the local food bank and it’s gestures like this that are great 👍
I'd like to second that . That's a wonderful gesture from our supporters club. I'm proud of them.

I take it you are answering "why did the coach leave?". If so, the answer makes no sense

Yep, the reason given what that some unspecified players had woken up this morning with Covid symptoms.

This directly from their CEO - https://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/20 ... postponed/

"Like many supporters, the squad met up this morning and began travelling on the coach to the game. However, some squad members woke up symptomatic this morning leaving us with ten outfield players and two goalkeepers available for selection."

So the chronology of this is the squad met up and started travelling and then some squad members woke up symptomatic this morning. That makes no sense at all. And since they knew they had asymptomatic players this morning they then wouldn't let them on the bus.

Yeah true, we lost in as much as denied the chance to fulfill the fixture at a later date along with the revenue loss, experience for fans etc. The UEFA exit for them was a beautiful case of schadenfreude I must admit.

The whole thing is a complete farce, our promotion push finished when we lost at Tranmere, Jackett will probably leave to take up the "vacant" manager's job at Watford at the end of the season and it'll be back to square one for us.... again

Earlier today, we shared the news of our postponement of our game with Bristol Rovers, a New Year’s Day clash we were all looking forward to.

We are of course disappointed with the postponement of the Bristol Rovers game, even more so by the late nature of the postponement.

We have been in contact with Bristol Rovers throughout the week regarding their reduced player availability, although we understood the fixture would still proceed in accordance with the EFL rules.

The Club expect the EFL to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the postponement of today’s fixture.

Whilst there is of course so much that is taken out of our hands with the spread of the virus, there are things that can be done.

The postponements of fixtures are not helping sustainability of football, and more and more costs are incurred through the later postponements.

We need to do more as individual clubs, and collectively the EFL, to ensure rules around postponements change for the better.

In closing, we wish all our supporters a very happy new year and look forward to seeing many of you at Stoke City in the FA Cup on Sunday 9th.

Nigel Travis

Leyton Orient Chairman
