Bit misleading though - treatments have changed and it’s no good for anyone to be laid up in a hospital bed longer than necessary. Would prefer the measure of available hospital beds; if there is one. I’ll ask the Wife when I see her - she does something in the hospital.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:34 amWhere are those figures from?Story of O wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:19 am In 2000 there were 240,144 beds, in 2010 there were 183,849. A quick google provides these numbers:
1987 - 300k beds
1997 - 195k beds
2007 - 180k beds
2020 - 140k beds

Re: Coronavirus
But you have to factor in that there are 12 million more people in the country than in 1987

The numbers in September will warrant one but can’t see this government doing it again

Re: Coronavirus
Apparently occupancy/available beds is a hospital/National measure, with a certain tolerance required. Can’t imagine those stats are easily found though!Orient Punxx wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:12 pmBit misleading though - treatments have changed and it’s no good for anyone to be laid up in a hospital bed longer than necessary. Re: Coronavirus
Another lockdown would be counter productive. Although early in this wave , numbers appear to be plateauing. Everyday more are vaccinated.
If you listen to Radio five you would think that the world was ending. Disgusting negative and lazy reporting by them. The reason more vaccinated people are testing positive than unvaccinated is because there are fewer unvaccinated people now to infect. But vaccines are , for the most part , preventing serious illness.

Re: Coronavirus
Numbers plateauing? Look again. We're currently recording the 3rd highest "New cases daily" in the World, behind Brazil and Indonesia only. We'll probably be top of the list by this evening or tomorrow. It's one hell of a gamble to rely solely on vaccination to prevent a huge upturn in hospitalisations and deaths.

The numbers are high , I agree , but in the last week the rises in numbers are decreasing percentage wise. I didn’t say are numbers are low.BoniO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 9:51 am Numbers plateauing? Re: Coronavirus
Not looking for an argument but numbers are rising steeply. There is no way that they are "plateauing".

And please remember, our infection figures include vaccinated people who will not , in the majority of cases , be hospitalised. The countries you quote and many around us with similar daily infection rates will mostly include non vaccinated people because we are so far ahead

Re: Coronavirus
Difficult to see in that graph. Figures this week have been between 30-40k most days. They are not doubling. We will see over the next few weeks. This variant has been around for some weeks now and if you combine that with unlocking and getting back to normal life , it has hardly taken control has it. I guess 40k cases a day will be acceptableBoniO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 10:57 am Not looking for an argument but numbers are rising steeply. There is no way that they are "plateauing".

Re: Coronavirus
went to our grandsons football tournament
had a phone call next day, one of the woman who was with us
has tested positive.
8 days now the wife and I have shown no symptoms
have to say it was a bit scary.

My central heating guy has had the same experience. Cancelled yesterdays annual service and re-scheduled for 2 weeks time.

COVID hospital cases 14 July 2020. 2195
COVID hospital cases. 14. July. 2021. 3231.
It is quite clear by the above figures that the vaccine is useless.
No great surprise as it takes years of research.

Re: Coronavirus
3 times more people in intensive care.
Stop listening to the BBC and do your own research.
These vaccinations are useless and only gullible idiots think otherwise.
We are now in a worse position than last year.

Re: Coronavirus
Look at the hospitalisations now vs when we had similar number of cases in the previous wave. The vaccine works and it'll be a ban for you if you post anymore fake news on this topic.Still wrong wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 5:32 pm 3 times more people in intensive care.
