Bit misleading though - treatments have changed and it’s no good for anyone to be laid up in a hospital bed longer than necessary. Would prefer the measure of available hospital beds; if there is one. I’ll ask the Wife when I see her - she does something in the hospital.

Apparently occupancy/available beds is a hospital/National measure, with a certain tolerance required. Can’t imagine those stats are easily found though!

Another lockdown would be counter productive. Although early in this wave , numbers appear to be plateauing. Everyday more are vaccinated.
If you listen to Radio five you would think that the world was ending. Disgusting negative and lazy reporting by them. The reason more vaccinated people are testing positive than unvaccinated is because there are fewer unvaccinated people now to infect. But vaccines are , for the most part , preventing serious illness.
Numbers plateauing? Look again. We're currently recording the 3rd highest "New cases daily" in the World, behind Brazil and Indonesia only. We'll probably be top of the list by this evening or tomorrow. It's one hell of a gamble to rely solely on vaccination to prevent a huge upturn in hospitalisations and deaths.

The numbers are high , I agree , but in the last week the rises in numbers are decreasing percentage wise. I didn’t say are numbers are low.
And please remember, our infection figures include vaccinated people who will not , in the majority of cases , be hospitalised. The countries you quote and many around us with similar daily infection rates will mostly include non vaccinated people because we are so far ahead
Difficult to see in that graph. Figures this week have been between 30-40k most days. They are not doubling. We will see over the next few weeks. This variant has been around for some weeks now and if you combine that with unlocking and getting back to normal life , it has hardly taken control has it. I guess 40k cases a day will be acceptable

8 days now the wife and I have shown no symptoms
have to say it was a bit scary.

My central heating guy has had the same experience. Cancelled yesterdays annual service and re-scheduled for 2 weeks time.

Look at the hospitalisations now vs when we had similar number of cases in the previous wave. The vaccine works and it'll be a ban for you if you post anymore fake news on this topic.
