Free school meals, yes.
This has always been the case for the poorest in society.
My sisters 3 kids had them during the 80s
Might add her scumbag of a Ex husband wasn’t paying any maintenance.
But breakfast? No.
And surely a cheap pay as you go phone will suffice?

She didn't have a global pandemic to deal with though and the added challenges there, and neither should we look back at history and use it as a reason to not be better today. I can think of many things we did in the 80's that we wouldn't do now as we move on as a society.

And a pay as you go phone will not work as so much requires a smartphone right now, including keeping up with Universal Credit obligations. Or even track and trace, to give a 2020 flavour.

This country is f*cked if there is a sizeable segment of the population that aren't gonna grumble about the 12 billion being spunked on a non functioning track and trace system handed out to private sector pals from the government, but are getting riled up by the idea of a small subsidy to make sure poor kids get proper food.

Are you saying with all seriousness that the government should supply everybody with a Smartphone?

Nope, I'm saying two things 1) It makes sense that people that cannot afford to spend even tiny amounts of money on food still need to spend it on a phone, kicking to the curb the idea that everyone in poverty should have a PAYG Nokia and 2) Digitalising everything has its drawbacks.

I actually agree with that.
If the country is going in that direction and a phone becomes essential, then the government should offer assistance and not expect people to finance it out of their benefits.

This will Serve 20 breakfasts.
Works out to just under 4p a day.
Had one myself this morning.
Took all of Two minutes in the microwave.
Just saying..............................
Would it be ok to have it for lunch and dinner too. I realise that trebles the cost and to be honest I'm worried about scurvy or similar from an unbalanced diet. Any thoughts?
No, you can do what I did last night Max.
A beef casserole and Dumplings for 3.
Along with Creamy mash potato, Broccoli and Spinach.carrots mushrooms.
Came to just under £2 per head.
Still had one meal left over.
Sounds yummy but I spent my last 75p on a kilo of not very nice porridge. I couldn't cook it anyway as I've no money to put in the Leccy to power the cooker.

I have been trying to get my kids to have it with water. So far they have refused and insist on having milk. This adds about another 6p.

If they went back to feeding the kids unhealthy stuff for school dinners, they'd have enough fat reserves to get through the holidays.

How can the clowns that voted that down sleep well at night, it’s an absolute disgrace. No one should live in poverty in this country, no child should go without food and especially in this mad world we currently live in help should be extended and more arms wrapped around people that need help and support.

I’m fuming and I’m going to be writing to my mp to complain and ask he makes representation to the minister responsible and even lobby the pm.

Time for action people, hopefully a few more of you will reach out to your mp and show your disgust at this turn of events.

Who is with me?
People who cannot afford to feed their children should not have children.

There has been in existence contingencies in place post war means to support families in need , the benefit system. What do people do with this money?

At what point does the state stop nursing people ? Some parental responsibility is required at some point. Rashford is being put up by Lefty Remoaning bigots for their own political agenda.
You utter clown.
No, you, uttered ‘clown’.

Why? Is that the extent of your moronic vocabulary?

Wow, you waste 4p on breakfast?

I find walking into any greasy spoon & sitting at a table where someone has just received a full fry up for example.

I tend to just stare at the plate of food , occasionally I'll watch a forkful of the food travel to the eaters mouth , this normally leads to them asking if im hungry ,
I nod vigorously & 1 of 3 things happen

1. They pass you the plate
2. They buy you a breakfast
3. What's a black eye in the pursuit of food .
