Change UK to change its name again !!
What with Chuka Umunna ( He of three political parties within months of each other !! ) now joining the Lib Dems after quitting Change UK, well just days after half of its MPs resigned, the party, whose official name was ‘Change UK - The Independent Group’, said it was rebranding following a legal challenge from petitions website Change.org. It will now be known as ‘The Independent Group for Change’, pending a decision from the Electoral Commission.

Fair play to him for having the nerve to carry on.
I don't know how they got things so badly wrong.

Chuka Umunna a Tory ?
Surely far more like a ''Champagne Socialist'' !!
To me he seems more at home socialising with the London Metropolitan elite, so different to the old fashioned Labour MPs of the past.

You show surprise at him being called a tory, yet then go on to (understandably) label him as one of the London Metropolitan elite....?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:14 amChuka Umunna a Tory ?

For a party who want to 'change' things, they are the most-middle of the road, centralist, non-committal group of nobodies i've ever known.

Chuka wants to change things back to how they were in 1997 under Lord Tony.

Change UK were formed because politics is broken with the 3 main parties as they are. Is it fixed now?

Re: Change UK to change its name again !!
To be fair to him and the others, you can see what they were trying to do. Just as the Brexit party wanted to hoover up Leavers from the other parties, Chuky and friends targeted the Remainers. Unfortunately for him, the Remainers are not quite thick enough to vote for a newly formed 'party' with questionable financial backing and no policies......

Chuka Umunna is like many other MPs at Westminster, a wealthy Clique who are firmly stuck in the '' Westminster bubble'' A group of people who cannot even begin to relate to the lives of normal working class people.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:19 amYou show surprise at him being called a tory, yet then go on to (understandably) label him as one of the London Metropolitan elite....?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:14 amChuka Umunna a Tory ?

Chuka Umunna a ''Champagne Socialist'' !! yes ..... ''a person who espouses socialist ideals while enjoying a wealthy and luxurious lifestyle.''
Tony Blair another example.

Are you suggesting people should choose a political party according to their bank balance rather than their beliefs?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:22 pmChuka Umunna is like many other MPs at Westminster, a wealthy Clique who are firmly stuck in the '' Westminster bubble'' A group of people who cannot even begin to relate to the lives of normal working class people.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:19 amYou show surprise at him being called a tory, yet then go on to (understandably) label him as one of the London Metropolitan elite....?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:14 am

You seem very confused about what socialism actually is. Are you quite old?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:22 pmChuka Umunna is like many other MPs at Westminster, a wealthy Clique who are firmly stuck in the '' Westminster bubble'' A group of people who cannot even begin to relate to the lives of normal working class people.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:19 amYou show surprise at him being called a tory, yet then go on to (understandably) label him as one of the London Metropolitan elite....?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:14 am

Re: Change UK to change its name again !!
Of course not, but people like the humble and wonderful Mr Clement Attlee were far more down to Earth and in touch with their Labour grass roots members than modern Labour MPs like the former member,Chuka Umunna. For just one instance, Blair is now far more concentrated on ever increasing his own personal wealth than doing good for the poorer members of society in UK.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:25 pmAre you suggesting people should choose a political party according to their bank balance rather than their beliefs?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:22 pmChuka Umunna is like many other MPs at Westminster, a wealthy Clique who are firmly stuck in the '' Westminster bubble'' A group of people who cannot even begin to relate to the lives of normal working class people.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:19 am

On this point, I've always wondered what the maximum level of income / assets people would deem acceptable for a socialist to have before they become a hypocrite.

It's at the exact same threshold that they stop being jealous and envious of the rich.Wally Banter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:40 pm On this point, I've always wondered what the maximum level of income / assets people would deem acceptable for a socialist to have before they become a hypocrite.

That's a really good point. I hadn't even noticed that the likes of blair were not like the old labour people.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:33 pmOf course not, but people like the humble and wonderful Mr Clement Attlee were far more down to Earth and in touch with their Labour grass roots members than modern Labour MPs like the former member,Chuka Umunna. I would have voted for my old Labour Councillor to be ''President of the World''CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 12:51 pmThat's a really good point. Great man who had fought in the second world war. Bill helped everyone with Council related issues and did not hang about, responded as soon as anyone contacted him, all regardless of what Party they had voted for. After a few years, near enough everyone in the area I live voted for him. He was a true man of the people and liked by everyone, such a rare human being, truly the salt of the earth.

Perhaps a sliding scale.
Under £10,000 = real Labour
£10k to £25k = still Labour with a tinge of blue
£25k to £75k = Labour but the blue becoming more evident
£75k to £150k = Well on the way to being Tory
£150k to £250k = mainly Tory but with a hint of Red
£250k+ = True blue.
If we could agree a table then we can rid ourselves of GEs just a computer programme to look at assets and income. As the country gets richer the more Blue it becomes. When it slumps the Reds have it.
