Orient in 5 years time?
With Covid-19 hanging like a dark cloud over the future of football certainly at our level, what do folks think watching Orient will be like in5 years time?
My thoughts are we will be a feeder club for Tottenham with our team a mixture of Spurs Academy and part time players. Depending on demand, still playing at Brisbane Road in a regional 3rd tier

We will be in exact same position in exact same division - just behind Billericay and Walthamstow Pennant on goal difference

As always, a tin pot club anchored in the lower divisions. (I seem to be getting very cynical, lately).

The way it's going at the moment I'd settle for that all day long....Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 10:55 am As always, a tin pot club anchored in the lower divisions. (I seem to be getting very cynical, lately).

Lower end of the championship which has been extend to 50 teams as this is the only EFL division left, owing to the other teams either disappearing or plying their trade in the non leagues.

Bottom end of League One, or just relegated, or just promoted back to League One again (having already gone up in that time). No real big changes.

Roaming the desolate landscape, scavenging for scraps of food, fighting off rival groups with makeshift weapons before returning to a barricaded Breyer Group Stadium, where we find that Sam Ling has somehow failed to stop a group of insurgents breaching the ramparts and making off with the whole years crop of turnips that were growing on what used to be the pitch.

Back in the Championship (2nd division)where we were when I first started watching the O’s and where I have expected them to return for far too long.

If we don’t learn how to defend properly we’d be probably back down in the National league.ContrifibulatoryFred wrote: ↑Sun Oct 18, 2020 10:41 am We will be in exact same position in exact same division - just behind Billericay and Walthamstow Pennant on goal difference

Re: Orient in 5 years time?
We finally seem to have good owners in place but the whole management side seems poor. This is getting pretty close to when Nigel and Kent have to make there toughest decision, do they keep the friendly were all pal's together and sink or swim we remain united or do they become professional buisinessman and protect their investment.
Big decision for them, stay with what we have and in five years we will either be in the lowest professional league i.e div 2 or possibly National league.
Take different approach and either we stagnate like the present set-up or possibly improve to div 1.
The different approach involves a complete management overall and re-structure.
Something i always come back to though is if a certain JE was still with us, then none of this thinking would be happening.
That probably tells you the answer.

Re: Orient in 5 years time?
Honestly, it depends on our manager and if investment is limited due to Covid or not.
I honestly think if we get in an experienced and successful manager in league one and two, whos fully in charge of who goes in and out, as well as laying off the dead wood at the end of this season then the budget and interest from our owners should be more than enough to get us a top 8 spot. We would have a good chance of getting promoted in the next 2 seasons.
A few consolidation seasons and some more investment could see us as a stable league one club again - which id bite your hand off for right now.
It’s sometimes sprinkled with bravado, but the longer we keep Ross, and to an extent, Ling, the more we limit our progress.

Still in this division having finished 18th, 15th, 12th, 16th and 11th. Ling has promised the owners - Dave Lee Travis and Rodney Teague the 4th - that the upward trajectory will continue and Ross will secure us a play off spot next season.
Club captain Sam Ling is set to make his 250th appearance for the club. Judd still has a dead leg but should be available for selection shortly.

Re: Orient in 5 years time?
I said when Ross was appointed we have now committed to wasting 18 months to 2 years. I've seen nothing to change that opinion.
We are now in a holding pattern under ross's leadership. I don't think we go down under him however, we won't go up under him either.
So I would have thought he has the rest of this season to prove he should be trusted to manage next season. This year I feel from what I've seen and heard from the owners this season is another free pass for Ross. Covid has affected football and the losses we are incurring don't need to be increased on a trigger finger firing him. So I do believe he will see out this campaign.
The club then has to think about direction, leadership and what are the priorities. That will possibly leave us starting again under a proven leader who will need 2 years to implement his vision. This seasons a write off already, next will be stability under a new manager then the upward curve towards promotion.
So i'd imagine in 5 years time we would be in league 1 under the next manager and looking to consolidate before pushing on to the upper reaches of the league.

Renamed Red Bull Orient and heading the Championship after taking over the peppercorn rent lease for the Olympic Stadium from Wet Spam whose decline has left them at the bottom of league 2 and playing at the old spotted dog ground. Barry Hearn turns Brisbane Road into flats only to find that post COVID and the £50/day congestion charge, the value of property in London drops by 90%.
