Sad to learn of the death of one of the finest & most underrated English footballers. Amazing he only won one England cap.

A true hard man of football.

I will never forget his headed goal in Liverpool's 3-1 win in the 1977 Champions Cup Final in Rome

"And it's Tommy Smith, what a delighted scorer"


Ironically the news of his death was broken whilst I was at the cinema watching the film "The Keeper" about the life of Bert Trautman
