What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
In these dark days, let's lighten up with some tales of adventure and excitement. This is not about in one day, buy on a holiday sort of trip or business. Overnight stops permitted, but not journeys like my Grand Tour of France, which took 4 weeks and I had almost a weeks stop in a few places. Please seek authentication with AA site......https://www.theaa.com/route-planner/route
I checked the other day. I went to Halden in Norway via Kuxembourg ( don't ask why ). It was 1200 miles. It included Hovercraft crossing to Calais, ferry crossings Puttgarden to Rodby, Elsinore to Halsinbourg.
Also went from 'Ornsey Rise to Cattollica 993 miles in a Reliant Robin ( beat that! )

Re: What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
Only been driving for a few years so not far.
Shared driving, 3 months after I passed, up the west coast of America from San Fran up to Seattle via the Oregon coast and Portland. About 15 hours in total and about 900 miles.
Took the 101 almost the whole way, which was magical. Aside from the cities, you barely see a car for miles and it goes from 6 lane motorways to tight hairpins up in the hills, running along the Pacific.
It was nervy driving on the wrong side of the road, with barely any experience but glad I did it

Did you go through Switzerland for Lake Guarda? I bet that's a stunning drive.Digby Chicken Caesar wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 10:54 am Essex to Nice or Lake Garda
Both circa 850 miles
The only problem I have with driving that far is the drive back will hang over me throughout my holiday. Driving to Bilbao means you can get the car ferry back to Portsmouth.

Drove my then girlfriend's car down to Villarreal in Spain after she moved there to teach for a year. Some really grest views in the south of France and crossed over a spectacular bridge whose name I can't recall

Re: What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
San Francisco to Vegas.
Started midday dropping a mate at the SFO airport.
3 of us then continued to Sequoia National Park for what should have been an overnight stop.
Was taking photos at Sequoia where one of my mates was standing by the side of the rental car when I saw 4 large paws the other side of the car - mountain lion.
Overnighter was abandoned (mate refused to get out the car!) and drove straight to Vegas getting there at 3am.
630 miles.

Route 66 with a detour via Memphis. 2700 miles. Melbourne to Cairns approx 1500 miles. Over a couple of weeks.
Longest U.K. drive in a single trip. London to Glasgow via A1. Approx 400 miles. Return trips in a day, to Leeds, to Manchester, to Chester, to Stockport. Work trips to meet customers. Long days but avoids hotels.
London to work and back. 4 hours round trip. Almost every working day for 3 years. 50,000 miles pa over that period.

Re: What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
Bought a brand new 51 plate A-Class back in 2011 (I think that was when they had a 51 plate) and decided to do our summer holidays driving.
Drove 3,000 miles over the two weeks. The longest of which was just shy of a 1,000km from Home via the tunnel to Calais, through the Alps into Geneva in one hit. Think it took about 14 hours with a couple of stops and waiting for the train and stuff.
Then from Geneva through Italy to Monaco, then Nice (which was awful and full of drug dealers, left a day early), then Lourdes, Biarritz, then back up to Calais, tunnel then home.
Totally underestimated how big France is. I thought 3,000 miles would be about right but after two weeks I was so sick of driving. Lovely roads but the tolls are a ball ache.

Re: What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
Picked up a bright yellow Renault Megane Convertible from Málaga airport in Spain and drove it East along the A7 past Nerja, Calahonda, Almeria, Alguias, Cartegena, Torevieja to Alicante and then stayed at a golf resort there that was only half built
We could have flown to Alicante but thought it'd be fun to drive the coast and it was a lovely drive. Sun beating down and music blaring.
Not sure of the distance on this one.
Just had a Google. About 500km and takes about 5 hours. Factor in my wife and it felt longer.

Shared driving 23 hours London to just South of Alicante. Could see white lines in my vision for about 12 hours after we finished.

Re: What's the Furthest You Have Driven Your Car?
I drove a car down to Athens once (ferry from Brindisi to Igoumenitsa, mind). Wasn’t mine, mind. Did a delivery of a Range Rover for cash. Took 3 days with kip stops and flew back.
Done a few trips down to the French ski resorts, but the furthest I’ve driven my own jam-jar was Genoa and back (a couple of naps in the car to break it up).
