Negative Formation

I’m sure that I’m not alone in failing to understand why Ross doesn’t play with Angol and Wilkinson up front as a pair.
Angol did his best up front alone, often surrounded by Grimsby defenders being kicked and pushed etc with Wilko around 25-30 yards away out on the wing.
Why ??!
Grimsby were there for the taking IMHO and looked one of the weakest teams we’ve played so far so why play just one up front.
We should be looking to get both Angol and Wilko on the ball as much as possible.

Brophy at left back is also a wasted position

It's because he doesn't have the belief to go out and win a game, we are set up not to lose.
Today was strange, our best centre half over the last month or so shifted to right back, the player who has played at left back moved to his natural position, our left winger shifted to left back, a centre forward at right wing. Then you have Wright who is absolutely useless again today staying on the whole 90 mins.

I thought Josh did well today, but then Grimsby didn’t have much up front to trouble our back four.
After all, we gifted them their goal.

Ross isn't cut out for the job...... We all know it.
We hopefully will scrape to safety by the skin of our noses.
After that... Who knows!

Yeah we deserved a draw today but almost didn’t get it.
Imagine the sh*t storm Ross would have faced had we not got that equaliser and lost today to one of the poorer teams to visit E10.
I think we will scramble to safety but Ross needs some backing in the transfer market to make sure.

Agreed I thought he was good today and I'm pleased for him to boot. Hopefully he continues in this way.

I don't see how we can call that a negative formation
Spoke to some Grimsby fans in C& H after the game & they can't believe where we are.

It's the same every week though, "play well" do nothing and concede, I still think a proper quality striker in the central role would make a massive difference

Not if he is isolated with no support

A proper central striker would be able to hold it up though and bring others into play or flood in behind them, that's the difference, Palmer earlier in the season tore us as apart when he came on and held the ball up and then got on the end of things

It's not as simple as that though. When outnumbered and crowded out by the opposition, especially when we're at home, it's going to limit their effectiveness no matter how good they are at holding the ball up. And that assumes we're able to effextively and accurately get the ball to them.

I agree that we played reasonably well today but it was a game we could and should have won, but only if Ross had been a little bit braver and played TWO out and out forwards.
We didn’t really pressure their back four enough with just Angol up front.
Just my opinion of course, but others sitting around me thought the same.

We haven't got 2 fit out & out strikers that can do 90 minutes at the moment & that is hurting us.
Still soon enough

Many saying we played well today but for all the "dominating" Grismby the stats still only show 2 attempts on goal, one being the penalty

Can't see how we can deserve to win having barely tested the keeper. Better service today, particularly from JMD but no-one in the dangerous areas to finish it off. That's where you get the playing well but still conceding issues coming from individual errors.
Next home game will be interesting with these promised new signings in place.

We have.
Ross just chooses not to play 2 up top, because our midfielders are weak.

Ross in his interview said that Wilkinson prefers to play on the wing. He was not bought into the club to play in that position we needed to replace Bonne and koroma with a dual striking force . When he does play Wilkinson as striker he moves Angol to the wing. I agree his set up is to not lose very negative tactics at home all season. Brophy at full back is a complete waste.

Ross just chooses not to play 2 up top, because our midfielders are weak.
Let me rephrase that
2 out & out strikers who will score inside & outside of the box, 2 good feet & big enough to be a threat in the air
Both banging in 15 goals + a season .
That's the important bit for me
Even Bonne for me isn't an out & out forward.
Great finisher good little striker etc
But you play to His strength rather than playing to a team's strength.
Totally agree about the lightweight midfield.

A decent CM so we can play 2 up top.
