NEXT SEASON
Time to think about next season. I believe that we need a reset a clear out left back
Right back is a must as jamew has been injured more times than anything and please we cwnt keep playing gilbrath at right back when the man is a midfielder also we need a goalscorer not a striker as I can't see qpr releaseing him ans also a keeper a tall one keeley ha sdone great but come on Tottenham were never goingvto let him go

Re: NEXT SEASON
Yup it's a massive rebuild next season, would love Currie back permanently though realistically unlikely to happen so need both fullback positions replaced.faith1234 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:17 am Time to think about next season. I believe that we need a reset a clear out left back

New RB
New LB
James is under contract so can be the cover for both sides, release Sweeney, not good enough for L1.
Galbraith in all likelihood will be sold so we'll need to replace him too. If we get to a point where mathematically the playoffs are gone we need to be starting the players who will be here next season like Abdulai.

Re: NEXT SEASON
We won’t win all those games. The team has been fantastic at times this season but last night proved we have now shot our bolt for this season . I’m not complaining because I think our players have given everything this season but a combination of fatigue and injuries has finally finished us.Orient Punxx wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:24 am Should be sitting in 7th this morning. Re: NEXT SEASON
If it becomes mathematically impossible to get in the play-offs give Noah Philips a game. He has been on the bench for months!

Everyone wrote us off a few weeks ago and now they are upset that we were 6th for a time and messed it up. Things change quickly, there's always random results as soon as you get into April. Nothing is over yet.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:05 amWe won’t win all those games. He is out of contract this season so if we are to keep then he needs to play. Interesting to see that his elder brother who is currently 1st team goalie at Rotherham is out of contract . Both from Hornchurch.

Re: NEXT SEASON
With the amount of loanees returning to their clubs and out of contract players we need a massive rebuild . We should let the following players go Sweeney, Clare Cooper , Markandy, Williams Prately for starters. At the end of the season we could only have O’Neil as a forward. El Miz is not getting game time at Oxford so he should be a no1 target. Currie could also be a target. Gailbraith will go so money will be available. We also don’t have high earners like Piggot and Moncur on the payroll. Theo and Graham won’t be around. Lingy is going to be extremely busy . Good luck!RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:05 amWe won’t win all those games. Re: NEXT SEASON
It's not the results or distance from play offs, but the fact that even when we've been winning we've looked god awful. We don't have the form or players to bridge the gap.
We'll be looking at 7-8 new players in the summer minimum. We essentially need a new central midfield, likely 2 new strikers, 2 new full backs, a new goalie and probably a new winger - possibly a new centre back as well depending on whether we ship at least one player from that position (hard to see Cooper being here, Simpson is 50/50).
With new ffp rules coming in, I don't expect our spending to radically increase. Nor do the potential new owners sound like they are mega wealthy, just wealthier than the current ownership.

Markandy is a Blackburn player. Clare has been good in Midfield and has a another year here.Currie will be given a chance by Oxford otherwise why did they buy and then NEVER give him a chance.moonwalk19 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 9:24 amWith the amount of loanees returning to their clubs and out of contract players we need a massive rebuild . Re: NEXT SEASON
I wouldn't be surprised if we make Cooper available for transfer, very much suspect that after the rumours he and Richie fell out and that he's the first one dropped, Richie will want rid to allow Brandon 'more game time' elsewhere.

Goes without saying that we need a bit of a rebuild. We absolutely must add in several areas as our current squad will definitely struggle across a whole season in the Championship.

Looking more like 15 players once you factor in loanees returning, out of contract players and likely player sale (Galbraith)Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 10:00 am We'll be looking at 7-8 new players in the summer minimum. Working on the basis we can't keep hold of the loanees we want back...
GK (replace Keeley)
LB (replace Currie)
RB (vacant position as Clare goes into CM)
CB (replace Simpson)
CB (replace Cooper)
CM (replace Warrington)
CM (replace Pratley unless you count Clare as that one)
CDM (replace Ball)
CAM (replace Donley)
CAM (replace Galbraith)
LW (replace Graham)
RW (replace Archibald)
ST (replace Kelman)
ST (replace Agyei)
ST (replace Pigott aka vacant since Jan 2024)
That's 14-15 and a conservative list as it doesn't include replacing some of the loanees for additional squad depth, which probably wouldn't come into the squad until Jan 26

Re: NEXT SEASON
The transfer policy of signing up players with a history of injuries has to stop.
It’s cost us dearly this season. The players either get another/same injury, or are unfit to start with and take half a season to get fit.If we must do it, do it on a very basic wage and pay by play.
Recent, not exclusive, examples are:
Jordan Graham, lovely chap but whole career has been one long list of injuries
Dom Ball, bad injury, struggled to get fit and got injured again
DJ, taken him at least half a season to get fit
Also I wouldn’t offer new contracts to players either with injuries or a bad injury record
Beckles, 33, bad injury, it’s not worth it
Tom James, always on treatment table
Question marks on Dan Agyei, last two years have not been great
Dan Happe, seems to get one bad one a season, question mark on him but under contract next season anyway
You’re always going to get injuries but this seasons injuries have totally stuffed us.

Also with new owners and a bit more money we should be shopping in a different market but I'm unsure how different as don't know how FFP will impact on us. I could research it but the sun is out and I'm cutting the grass.

This level of turnover would likely tank our start to the season and is why I'd keep Simpson. Graham's replacement is DJ. Donley's replacement is Abdulai. Cooper's replacement is REG. We aren't going to start next season with as many players as we're finishing this one with, we are carrying what, 3 first team wages who are essentially contributing nothing in Graham, Williams and Archibald.

Cooper for REG yes agree, wouldn't keep Simpson even with the integration point mentioned above. He's not been fully fit the entire time he's been here. Might already be taking one gamble with Beckles, can't afford 3 CBs with dubious fitness records.
Donley for Abdulai sounds right though I hear people say he's a CM or a wide player as much as the idea of him being CAM. Once playoffs are gone take Donley out and give Abdulai the rest of the season to get a settled role nailed down.
What about if 3 go? The other thread discussing Beckles makes me wonder is it a wise idea to offer a 33 year old player coming back from a serious injury a 2 year contract?aylesburyos wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 3:01 pm

starting eleven for next year
------------------new keeper
----new rb Beckles new cb new lb
-----------------clare brown
----new winger abdulai o neill
-------------------new striker
I think at rb we should look at liam Bennett - haven't watched an awful lot of him but apparently he is too good to go down and he is young and out of contract - replaces tj at rb (he will be back up rb and lb), we sell galbraith and try and reinvest the money to get kelman on a perm and to renew agyei. We need a goalie on a perm, would be very lucky to get keeley for another year - currie and donley will be in the championship and realistically probably kelman given his numbers this year
