World Cup Final in America next year..
It has been announced that there will be a Super Bowl type concert at half-time supervised by Coldplay.
Has there ever been a good World Cup in the USA? Rhetorical question, that.

More "Prime Time" advertising to sell - not so many of the audience will go off to make a cup of tea/coffee/get a beer etc - so more money for FIFA, especially the top brass. Or am I being cynical?

That should be the least of your concerns given who is likely to be handing out the trophy at the end.Give it to Jabo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 7:13 pm It has been announced that there will be a Super Bowl type concert at half-time supervised by Coldplay.

What's the betting that the Ruskies get a special invitation from the Traitor in Chief?

Well yes, USA 94, the last World Cup to be held in the USA was great, and a far, far better tournament than the mythologised Italia 90

Have a vague idea of going to this combined with a family holiday. Would love to go to a World Cup and for all the cringe it will be so much more in the celebration of a World Cup that f*cking Qatar or Saudi, so enjoy it

A much bigger problem than the halftime show and it being in America is the new snore fest of a format.
The 48 team World Cup will have a group stage with 72 matches simply to eliminate 16 teams. Zero jeopardy for any semi-decent team. It will be unwatchable before the knockout stage.

At least you'll be able to get a hot dog and pint of beer while Coldplay do their worst. I'd take that any day over the caffeine-free coke and halal burger cooked by Congolese slave in a dark kitchen, in a stadium built by Bangladeshi slaves, whilst being virtue-lectured by Gary Linekar and Gary Neville in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Matter of opinion of course. The only thing I remember about it was Diana Ross's stunning penalty kick. Would have to check to see who actually won it and can't recall any classic games. Although to be fair, Scotland weren't there, so my interest was probably minimal from the outsetCEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 7:38 pm Well yes, USA 94, the last World Cup to be held in the USA was great, and a far, far better tournament than the mythologised Italia 90

Oh yes, it's coming back to me now. But I think I got bored and wandered off before it got to penalty kicks. Do recall seeing it later though
