New stadium

Post by BiggsyMalone »

Reading Devlin’s programme notes, he says “we have also been asked if the club would consider moving to a new stadium”

Who has asked the CEO that question? Why have they asked it?

What a weird phrasing of a question

That boat sailed in 2007 when we got offered the Olympic stadium for 2 million. No where in east London has the land for a ground. Nearest would be Harlow on Essex border , but no chance, miles away and awful transport links. Fair enough, most Orient fans don't live local any more because of the housing prices. . A few sold out games doesn't mean a new ground is needed Dream world lol 🤣

Not that I think it’s going to happen but if Orient moved to some soulless identikit stadium in Essex which is half empty every week then that’s me finished. I’ve visited plenty of those as an away fan (Colchester United springs to mind) and I always leave feeling grateful that we have a home with character.

I love Brisbane Road ❤️❤️
Back in the 90’s standing on the terrace on a freezing cold Tuesday night we’re nights I looked forward to.
Still my best memory for me is standing behind the goal watching Lee Harvey and Super Cooper bang in the goals in the play off final v Wrexham, as we waved off the best player to wear the Orient shirt (IMO), The Orient legend Alan Comfort.
To more recent days, when JE lead us out of NL, and the tune, We are the champions was sung all round the ground.
And obviously this season & what is still yet to come!
Please don’t take my Brizzy away :lofc: ❤️

Weird that for years there was always ‘no space available in Waltham forest’ and then the soccer centre literally next to our ground gets demolished for flats. Would have been perfect to build a bigger stadium and still be basically in the same location like Brentford.

Plenty of room for a new stadium on the marshes on the Leyton / Clapton border by the River Lea, along Lea Bridge Road, near to the Ice Rink - back to the heartland of our great Club

That’s nowhere near big enough when you also consider the stands that need to be built. I was just wondering how many times a year is that hockey stadium used in the Olympic park. It was being used yesterday but it’s normally closed. I can’t help thinking that space is going to waste

Could have a pre/post match drink in the nearby Youngs pub, too. How good would that be??

The Hockey Centre is used every weekend and midweek for matches and training by a consortium of four local clubs, including Waltham Forest HC. There is also a regular programme of elite club and international fixtures. The footprint of the site is too small for a stadium bigger than what's there now given the proximity of the A12 and the Velodrome/cycling infrastructure in the Olympic Park.

Quite right. And i was looking on the Swindon forum yesterday and one of their fans said, ' Orient is one of my favourite away days'. And that made me feel quite proud but it also made me mad to think we are always talking about having to move, something that was totally unnecessary until some bulls--t of a chairman came along. Never mind the likes of that individual Bechetti, but the person that f--ked up Brisbane road as far as any future expansion goes was Barry Hearn. He kicked us fans in the arse and then walked away with his bundle of cash.

Much to my annoyance all the programmes were sold out by the time I arrived at the ground at. 2. 30 pm so I didn't get a chance to read that . It's intriguing. Who asked the question and where do they propose ? Could Mark Devlin please give us more details on that ?
