Kelman v Drinan
As Kelman put the ball in the net yesterday, to score our winner, I thought to myself, would Drinan have scored that goal, and the answer was NO.
That was a good finish from Kelman, and Drinan would most likely have not scored that goal, which begs the question, will RW replace Kelman with his golden boy Drinan when the later is fit in a couple of weeks
RW wont play both, as his system only plays one up front, so its one or t'other
It would be a retrograde step, to drop Kelman, and replace him with Drinan, so another selection problem for Richie coming up

Two entirely different players.Qin wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 10:03 am As Kelman put the ball in the net yesterday, to score our winner, I thought to myself, would Drinan have scored that goal, and the answer was NO.

Drinnan can also play out wide, so that may be one way to get them both in the team. A nice problem to have.

Re: Kelman v Drinan
Drinan out wide giving the luxury of keeping Smyth fit and fresh and / or allowing Smyth to also cover Moncur in the creative midfield role

Re: Kelman v Drinan
It's a long season, Drinan can play out wide, i think Smith's days are numbered though unless he is happy being a sub every week, he hasn't got the movement and pace etc that the smaller men have for Wellen's football

The composure El Mizouni and Kelman showed for that goal was better than we’ve seen at Orient in years. They are levels above most of this squad.

I'm on holiday so didn't see Kelman yesterday. But to quote one instance of good play and then to speculate that Drinan probably wouldn't have scored and maybe should be replaced is rather silly.

Re: Kelman v Drinan
Exactly . Drinan scored some beauties last season . Would Kelman had scored those . It’s a silly comparison. They both bring something different to the team and we’re going to need both during the season if we want promotionChief crazy horse wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 11:38 am I'm on holiday so didn't see Kelman yesterday. Re: Kelman v Drinan
I know what the OP means though. As Kelman went through, for that split second he had the ball you could tell he was in total control of the situation and was going to score. Drinnan would not have looked like that.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 11:38 am I'm on holiday so didn't see Kelman yesterday. Kelman played ok yesterday, and came alive for those two chances. If he keeps that up, he’ll get plenty of game time, but so too will Drinnan.

Re: Kelman v Drinan
It wasn’t just that. He was making very good runs, better passing from the midfield and CBs would have put him through several times.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 11:38 am I'm on holiday so didn't see Kelman yesterday. Re: Kelman v Drinan
His running off the ball was no better than Drinnans. In fact I’d argue it was worse - Drinnan is constantly looking to stretch the defence.
What most impressed me, other than the finish, was his pressing. He looked well off the pace last week (although I only saw the stream, not in person) but was properly at it yesterday,

Re: Kelman v Drinan
Yes it was. Drinan does it to stretch the defence which means nothing if you don’t have players running in behind. Kelman was making runs in behind to create chances.Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 12:05 pm His running off the ball was no better than Drinnans. I’m looking foward to seeing Drinan and Kelman play together, they’re going to rip defences to shreds. 15 goals each at least.

Playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, they will both get a chance need to rotate and good players to come in, same in other positions

I wasn't there yesterday so its pleasing to hear Kelman getting up to speed, because you are right. Last week I was there he was well off the pace.Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 12:05 pm His running off the ball was no better than Drinnans. FWIW I think RW will play them both in many games.

Re: Kelman v Drinan
Neither of them are Premier or Championship level strikers and speaking of Aaron Drinan, well he scored some really good goals last season......and missed his fair share as well !!Qin wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 10:03 am As Kelman put the ball in the net yesterday, to score our winner, I thought to myself, would Drinan have scored that goal, and the answer was NO.

So in the case of many football strikers sometimes they go in, quite often they don't !
Anyway football supporters have very short memories, Drinan has not played for a while so all of a sudden a new guy comes along, scores a decent goal and Drinan becomes a rubbish forward. Similar to Danny Johnson, he was the go to forward for Os in the first part of season 2021, got injured in around January 2021, did little after that, left the Os end of the season, went to Mansfield and it did not work out, now on loan to Walsall, hat trick in his first game, scored again on Saturday, 4 goals in 3 league games so at present top scorer in Division Two so back on form and scoring goals again in a team suited to his way of playing.

Re: Kelman v Drinan
RW will play them both I’ve no doubt . If he can play Ruel and Kelman, then he will play Drinan and Kelman. Kelman is right up the middle , Drinan likes to play in from the side. Could be a devastating combination in this league

I had a mate who liked to play from the side. Not my cup of tea, put me right off my rhythm.

He had to play Ruel and Kelman and Theo.
Thats too lightweight a front 3 in my opinion. At least with Drinnan out wide right you have a physical presence up top, meaning Kelman can play down the middle.

Drinnan will start down the middle , players will rotate &switch. Falling into rigid football again .Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 11:15 pmHe had to play Ruel and Kelman and Theo.
