Additionally some big teams with bigger budgets may come down and make it even harder to get promoted. Including Northampton, Swindon, and Bristol Rovers. With a chance of Wigan dropping into the drop zone. Making a mid table finish posible not the end of the world.

I would have thought with all this new investment we will be Salford mk2.

Again, they need to finish 12th or higher, with a positive GD.

Was not expecting it to be this close.

Current position: 11th, +1 GD
538 prediction: 12th, 0 GD

Could still meet goal with 11th or 12th place finish (in upper half of league table).
Could still miss goal with 13th or 14th place finish (in lower half of league table).

Need win or draw at Salford to meet goal of positive GD.
Statistically, the odds are against it. 538 odds: win 16%, draw 30%, loss 54%.
But you never know. According to 538, Colchester's odds against Salford today were even worse, yet Colchester won.

After their loss today, Salford will need a win against LOFC to have any chance of making the playoffs.

Thought the following goals were realistic for this year:

1. Finish in upper half of table (i.e. 12th or better)
Achieved. Finished 11th, a clear improvement on last year's finish of 17th.
But perhaps lucky to finish that high. 538's Soccer Power Index (SPI) puts LOFC at only 16th in the League.

2. Positive goal difference
Missed, though it was close: -2 GD for the season.
LOFC ranked only 14th in League Two by this measure.

3. Finish ahead of Salford in the Table
Missed, but LOFC came closer than last year.
I notice that Salford fell one victory short of the playoffs, and that LOFC beat them in January.

Overall, I see this season as an improvement over last year, but only slightly.
Not terrible, but not impressive either.
Salford supporters probably have similar feelings.

LOFC placed 11th this year, up from 17th last year, but they were likely fortunate to finish that high.
LOFC ranked 16th in SPI this year, up from 17th last year, but only slightly.
LOFC ranked 14th in GD this year, up from 16th/17th (tied) last year, but only slightly.

Too early to set expectations for next season, with likely roster and managerial changes pending.
