I’ve had less social distancing on public transport and in supermarkets in the last 3 months than will be in the pub. It’s more than just being ‘desperate for a pint’, it’s being able to have some sort of normality and being able to have a pint with your mates. I’ll be going to Gaucho for lunch on Sunday too. I’ve sacrificed a lot since March, I want to do some things that make me happy.

I can’t see how booking a table and getting table service is sucking the fun out of going to the pub. It won’t be rammed with coked up fannies standing at the bar and giving you grief. Also, I don’t have to go and get a round in.
We normally go in a crowd of least 10 -20 people most of the time (including kids) can't see how their going to let us all stick together in a big group.

On the odd occasion that i go with my mates I'm one of the so called fannies that stands at the bar although I've never touched coke. I sit on my backside all day at work so prefer standing up when i have a beer. I can sit in a chair and have a beer at home any time.

If it's done a booking only and then you get assigned a table that's apart from other tables (preferably outside) and drinks are table service then I can see it working

If it's come all ye faithful to a cramped Spoons where everyone is p*ssed up and not much gets enforced maybe not.
I just can't see it working. Even those that start out with the good intentions of all the things you've listed aren't going to be able to keep it going once people have knocked back their 2nd or 3rd drink, see friends they haven't seen for a while at other tables, start calling other mates to pop down etc etc.

You're basically asking people to act like it's a restaurant not a pub.

Some of the larger gastropubs will be equipped for it but yeah, your standard local isn't gonna cope too well

Yep, this nails it.

I know of lots of people who have been quite vocal about dying to get back into a pub this weekend, I've not seen anyone saying the same about restaurants. I can only see people treating it as pub.

Hopefully the weather is sh*t this weekend.

The first day the pubs open will be the safest they will ever be, as standards will only slip from there on.

Let's rock'n'roll.

The Pembury Tavern in Hackney is opening on Saturday at midday, and they’re taking bookings for groups of up to six people at a table for a maximum of two hours. Order drinks by app only, pay contactless, drinks bought to you, hand sanitiser at the door, one way route to the loos etc. It sounds pretty rigid, but me and the wife have booked a table for 2.30 as I finish work nearby at 2pm. I’ll see how it pans out.

All mine opening at Midday despite the headlines saying 6AM.

Really gutted, had to resort to a 4 pack of Kestrel Super instead :(

Well I'm off to buy some juicy big old steaks, some other bbq food, beer etc. Mates coming round and well just eat, drink and relax in my hot tub. What's not to like?

Did anyone go?

Our local village/country pubs are more like gastro destinations rather than boozers these days, and were all fully booked anyway, so I think I’ll leave it another couple of weeks to see how it pans out.

But our daughter went back to work in a TWells pub last night -said it was carnage as they weren’t limiting the time slots, so it all got a bit messy as the punters, er, relaxed. Can’t say we’re happy she’s working in such an environment at this time.

The social distancing measures that some pubs had put in place had generally disappeared by 5pm

I was on the midnight train from Liverpool St to Essex coming home from work and it was business as usual. Few dozens kids aged 18-25 walking up and down the train between their groups, no masks, arguing loudly and aggressively over sh*t

I went to my local real ale micropub and they had good social distancing measures in place.

I guess that's it, isn't it. If you have responsible owners and clientele then it'll be fine. But, if not...

A warm bath with other people, no thanks.
What even is that scummy residue that floats on the top.

Use your imagination, or maybe not. I can't think of many things worse than sharing a bath with a bunch of hairy-arsed blokes. I'd also wonder how long the water has been in the tub, is it cleaned out regularly, is is properly sanitised and then I still wouldn't get in it.

Being in Lockdown and then going to Spoons is like being on Death Row and choosing a £3 Tesco meal deal as your last meal
