Re: To Serve and Protect
Ah, never mind.
Kaba had been charged in 2018 with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence,[3] in relation to an incident on 30 December 2017.[4] He was found guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court in January 2019, and sentenced to four years in a Young Offenders Institute.[4] He was released in 2021.[4]
In the months following his death, six men were charged with conspiring with Kaba to commit murder and grievous bodily harm; the charges relate to a shooting which took place in Tower Hamlets on 30 August 2022, days before Kaba's death.[5][6]
Kaba was a member of 67, a Brixton Hill-based drill rap group which one of its members says has been called a criminal gang by the police

It's amazing the kind of people these far left student cranks are willing to go in to bat for.

Wasn't cited as evidence in the trial as not relevant to what happened but given that the video footage they released of the police shooting was pretty damning, not sure where this one can go as a miscarriage of justice cause.

Re: To Serve and Protect
Ah, that makes sense - should have been obvious I guess, but I was a bit confused by all the reports (mentioned in Caca's wiki info above) about the fellow gang members who were convicted of the attempted murder at Oval Space in Hackney, but every write up mentioned the person who pulled the trigger was dead and couldn't be named for legal reasons. This must be why.

Re: To Serve and Protect
How was he driving around though, having been charged with attempted murder a couple of days earlier? Surely you don't get bail if you're charged with shooting someone in both legs?

Couldn’t see any reference to him being nicked for it in that article so presumably he was an outstanding suspect still.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:32 am How was he driving around though, having been charged with attempted murder a couple of days earlier? Re: To Serve and Protect
Pure speculation but given how weak the prosecution’s case was and everything that has been released since….. I get the impression the CPS arse covered and didn’t want to take the political/public heat of not charging and instead passed the buck to the jury
Re: To Serve and Protect
Now that the full facts are out and the matter judged by a jury it really does make some of the people on this thread look biased. As for the Met is rotten to the core and putting this case on this thread shows you judged everything without knowing the facts. No sorry or I was wrong just more pre judged assessments before knowing the facts. Should I ask if now seeing the footage you agree with the actions.

Re: To Serve and Protect
That I believe is what the training is to do. You cannot play shoot to wound as you may only get one shot and they are there to protect not only their life but others as well. So where do you find an acceptable zone or body part to shoot. Knowing now the full facts was this wrong. Or like some others on here should we dispense with a jury and have trial by the guardian newspaper

Re: To Serve and Protect
The fact he was a bad egg still doesn't justify the 5-0 shooting him in the head in circumstances which still aren't exactly clear cut, which seems to be some people's main takeaway from this. "Oh, that's alright then!" We don't live under a military junta.

Re: To Serve and Protect
Fair point, could have been charged in his absence and a warrant put out I suppose (if it works like that? Absolutely could be wrong but I thought to be charged that had to be done in person?).Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:42 amCouldn’t see any reference to him being nicked for it in that article so presumably he was an outstanding suspect still.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:32 am How was he driving around though, having been charged with attempted murder a couple of days earlier? Re: To Serve and Protect
I recently had a discussion with a former firearms officer and he said that when you shoot, you're essentially shooting to kill. So in reality, the decision is not "should I shoot in this scenario?" but "should I kill in this scenario?"

Charging by post is common (not for attempt murder though tbf)Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:30 pmFair point, could have been charged in his absence and a warrant put out I suppose (if it works like that? Can’t see any reference to him being charged though either. Just that he was the main suspect in a shooting and would’ve been on trial with the rest of his fellow gang members had he not been dead. Which suggests he was wanted for the attempt murder

"During their trial, Mr Kaba was named by the judge as the gunman. The judge said Mr Kaba shot the man once in the leg while on the nightclub dance floor, and once outside as the man tried to escape.
Mr Kaba died before being charged in connection with the shooting, but was later named on the charge sheet for the trial."
I could have misread but I think they've changed how they worded it, so was never actually charged - while alive anyway.

Re: To Serve and Protect
Interesting, sounds like it was a procedural thing then given the key role he played in the criminal endeavour.
Where’s Spen when you need him?

Re: To Serve and Protect
My point remains that several people on this board pre judged an issue without knowing the facts. Until you know the facts do not believe everything that the media say. This goes from the sun , mail and the guardian they have their own agendas and target audience they print for. Likewise just because people demonstrate does not mean they know all the facts or are correct
