The non goal was either end of 1st half
Or end of 2nd as we were in the Home section opposite the
tunnel, so side of the pitch as 8 remember seeing the players running down the tunnell.
The reason we were in the home end was the other game
the few O's fans got slightly attacked , drinks & stuff thrown.
So i assume the old man thought
Better to be a fox hiding among the hounds
Instead of alone in an open field .
I know we didnt win or lose .
So it could only be the 1-1 in 74 or the
0-0 whatever year that was.

We are just putting the finishing touches to 'Football's Black Pioneers', a book celebrating the first black (or mixed heritage) player at each of the Football League clubs. I was trying to understand a story Bobby Fisher has told about the Millwall game where a knife was thrown. Some bits of the story didn't make sense, in particular, the record books show that Laurie Cunningham never scored a goal against Millwall and yet Bobby's story said that he did. Your recollection of a goal scored but disallowed has helped to make sense of something that didn't make sense at all.
I don't suppose you remember if Millwall's ground had high fences when you went? Bobby's story mentions fences but they weren't generally introduced until about 1978/79.

There were small fences at the ground in front of the home end behind the goal ( not memory but old footage) & cage barriers if you like seperating blocks of terraces/seating .
Im pretty sure the tunnel area always had the fences by them as shown in the
Panorama video about millwalls hooligans .
I remember thinking the 1st time I was in the ground , it was like a mixture
of brisbane road & white hart lane but the fencing by the tunnell/gangway was a bit strange.

There are newspaper reports that a knife was thrown as the players left the pitch. Can you recall anything about the events on the pitch that might have led up to that?

All I remember is sitting on my hands for most of the game because it was so intimidating. The aim was to get home safe and sound.
As an aside in 1970 the year we got promoted, I was doing the programmes west stand, north end. It was about 13.30 and the gates were not even open and about 100 Millwall fans kicked the gate down - At the front was a skin head lady, I run as fast as i could down the stand and across the pitch, I would have beaten Usain Bolt !! And they pinched all me programmes!!
