Favourite Orient League Match

Post by Forty-Niner »

Mine was surprisingly a 4-3 second division defeat at Anfield in 1959. Our goals were scored by Tommy Johnston (2) and Dennis Sorrell.
So good was the game that a number of Liverpool fans wrote to our club showing their appreciation. A number of these letters were reproduced in subsequent match day programmes. Two seasons later both teams were to be promoted to Division One.

What a game that was. Took Mrs dOh with me, she actually found the game quite entertaining. Atmosphere and incidents. Something else.

Peterborough away nov 2013. Best Orient performance I’ve ever seen. Especially sweet as people were still writing us off and we were too, Peterborough second and they couldn’t get near us, despite taking the lead

You could be right on this one. If only Mooney's first effort had gone in instead of hitting the crossbar!

Both our performances against them that season were truly superb. The terrace rush when we equalised at London Road was unparalleled in my Orient-supporting career.

My favourite game was probably the 1-3 defeat at home to Leicester. End-to-end against possibly the best side we played in League One. Objectively fantastic match. Favourite win would be the 4-3 at Lincoln where we were behind three times and Lee Steele scored a hat-trick.

It really wasn’t. There was literally nothing fun about it until the 97th minute. Well, apart from the fat pikey Oxford fan waddling across the pitch giving 4,000 Orient fans the come on.

Everyone we win

Barring that vs Gillingham 3-3 Lockys hat trick
And MK Dons the last league match of 13/14 IMO the best we played all season

I remember a great game in late 70's three all against Brighton I think. Martin Chivers played as far as I recall.
The 4-0 home victory against QPR in the 70's when they were all over us & we hit them numerous times on the break.
In more modern times I saw the great performance away to Swindon in 13/14. Jamie Jones was attacked by a Swindon fan. Really memorable game & I couldn't believe how good we were.

The Brighton 4-4 was madness. 2 iffy teams but BHA in real danger of dropping out of the League as well as losing their ground. It had the lot, including a rubbish 1st half showing from Orient which didn’t give any hint that the match would explode in the 2nd half.

More recently, the Norwich home game when we beat the champions elect with their fans filling the East Stand in one of Slade’s first games, when Thorton played a blinder, to ease our relegation fears.

Ditto the Sutton home game in 17/18. Edinburgh arrived & got our lot competing at last after our dismal slump, pumping the then-leaders to boot. My growing alarm at dropping to Conference South disappeared that day.

Seem to remember taking the lead from a pen in that Leicester game.

Honourable mention to the Leeds home game (may have been the same season?) where we were 2-0 down, with 10 men and drew 2-2. Massive Tuesday night atmosphere.

Hull at home in the play offs or even better still the away game, Peterborough away as mentioned before, lockys hatrick v gillingham which was a turgid affair except for the excitement of him single handedly getting us a draw.

Against Wedt ham at home with a castle pen. 8-0 victory v colchester which is the most I've ever seen in a pro game.

So many games to choose from.

I have read about the game at Millwall where Laurie Cunningham and Bobby Fisher enraged the Millwall fans by raising their fist at them. I'm very interested to hear more about what happened. As a new member I can't PM you, tuffers, but I am curious to know when this happened and anything you (or anyone else who was there) can remember about it. Thanks.
