Huxley wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 9:05 am On a board they run a user was bullied and baited to the point where we became genuinely concerned about their well-being.

Rather than acknowledging that they have allowed the atmosphere which caused such a situation they go around throwing bans at people who ask genuine questions about how this place could be improved.

Then they have the audacity to claim the moral high ground by claiming that certain threads are “not the place” to ask these questions.

If I were moderating a message board which has resulted in people genuinely concerning for the welfare of another user (one which I’d tried to wind up in the past) id be ashamed of myself rather than trying to cover it up and deflecting attention to others.
I don't have answers. The way to improve things is for people to stop behaving like cnuts. But I've been waiting for that for decades and it don't look like it's gonna happen.
I think banning people who openly and directly call others Cs (not talking about you, but someone else from last week) would be a good start.

But the moderators don’t think that is worthy of a ban, but people questioning the standard of moderation is.

I suspect I will get a perma ban shortly for the crime of questioning how moderation is done here.
Maybe the bloke who was called a cnut is a cnut - have you considered this possibility?

as I said, all it needed was a little bit of self reflection and to ask yourself “do we run this place in an acceptable way”. Instead you went down the route of hounding the one user who asked the question.
Why does it matter?

If you do not like the way it is run do not sign up and do not post.

I think that most people get that rather than consistently moan.

Crypto- hugely damaging to the environment FACT. Irresponsible to encourage others to invest in magic beans.

Your thread about our 'first black manager' was needlessly provocative because you named boarders as racists for no reason. Spoilt an otherwise good thread.

The only person who spoiled that thread was the boarder who apparently doesn’t see race but also gets massively upset about BLM

The lengths you’re going to because somebody criticised how you moderate this board is incredibly amusing and continues to prove my initial point.

You could have just gone “yeah, we will have a think about how we moderate this place in future”, instead you’ve gone on some obsessive pursuit to discredit me. The funniest part is that even if your proof amounted to anything it still wouldn’t negate my initial point about the shoddy standard of moderation on this board.
Its not impossible for people using the same ISP to have posted from the same IP address, thats true. But 77 times from the same IP as you?

 :clown @ you calling somebody else obsessive.

1. Yes it’s possible
2. You have no proof that 77 is a number you haven’t just made up
3. This relentless pursuit of a single user who criticise the standard of moderation on this board is proof that the moderators cannot take simple constructive criticism.

It seems to me that the basic problem is that there are a lot of users on here with the intellectual capacity of a sparrow (if the cap fits, please wear it). Not sure what the moderators can do about that.

Still proves nothing. IP address is not confirmation of identity.

My suggestion for improving the moderation of the board is simple:

If you’re going to ban people for questioning the moderation of this board, then also ban people who call others a C on the same thread.

To be honest, a simple acknowledgment that banning me for questioning your moderation whilst letting another user call people a C was unfair and misjudged would be enough to put this all to bed.

So it comes down to us agreeing that you've been unfairly banned for using a thread about a boarder's welfare inappropriately.

How about you f*** right off?

So your constructive criticism is for us to agree that you've been unfairly banned.

f*** off.
Nope. If you take the time to read what I’m actually saying you will realise that I’ve never criticised the decision to ban me. You can ban who you want. I accepted my ban without argument. I personally don’t agree with it, but it’s not my board. If questioning the moderators is a banning offence, so be it.

My criticism is the fact that another user was free to call others a C without being punished.

You’ve basically made it acceptable to call others a C on this board. I haven’t done it myself because it’s vulgar but I want you to confirm that if I did I wouldn’t get banned for it.

Considering the context of that thread, banning someone for calling you a fanny would have been very harsh.
