I imagine it’s a tactical call from Soubry’s constituency Tories not to try and prompt a recall. It’s a marginal seat where a by-election would split the vote between Soubry and Tory, letting Labour in probably - though the resurgent LibDems and pesky Farridge Party might have chances too. Anyway, the Tories would lose the seat right now.

Same applies to most of the other Tigger defectors’s seats.

Your probably right in what you say Slacker, I know we don’t vote for a party, but most people probably do. I believe that if you do what they’ve done, then you should stand for re-election and let the people decide if they still want you to represent them.

Labour would be only too happy to run against Umunna and Leslie and the other non-entities that left. That is precisely why the "Independents" will hold on for as long as possible. They know its all over. They've got, at most, 12 months to fix themselves up with a political vehicle or arrange a cushy little number in the corporate sector. Only the tiniest of tiny minorities wanted the kind of thing Umunna and Leslie stand for, not that you'd know that by listening to the media.

They will be welcome additions to the Lib Dems.
