2-3-5

Our forwards will rip the opposition a new one and hopefully our 2 defenders will resist all attacks for 90 mins which is entirely possible having kept at least one clean sheet this season. With 5 forwards attack will be our best form of defence.
From around the age of 16 years old, I started to read many books, magazines etc about the various football tactics, coaching, formations etc.
Here is an informative piece of information I just found on the internet, part of which is shown below the link.
I used a kind of 5-4--1 formation once, it was forced on by circumstances and tactics to try to blunt the opposition that we were playing in a cup replay game. Basically we used one sweeper tidying up behind a back four, two central midfielders along with two wing backs with one very fast centre forward pushed up down the centre. Tactics were to play a defensive game, draw the other team into our own half, outnumbered them in defence and midfield, keep possession of the ball as much as possible and play quick break out counter attacking football along with deep in our own half passes played over the top of their defence for our wingbacks and centre forward to run onto. It worked out well on the day and we won 4-1 with our lone striker scoring all of the 4 goals that our team scored.

Good article sid. You learn something every day. The 2-3-5 was pioneered by the Scots and plenty of their players came down to England to enhance and show them how to do it. I never knew that. It was also the prime tactic for a very long time.

So I as manager ( played in centre midfield as well in that game ) came up with a one off sort of 5-4-1 formation for that game, I explained to the players before the game about their roles and what I expected from them ( I also talked/shouted non stop to the players throughout the game to keep them on their toes ! ) Strange that we sorted this out and played this one off system so well and yet RE so lacking in getting his ideas over to pro footballers and he seems unable of being able to think outside the box. All those coaching badges yet so lacking in ideas and adapting to changes in games as they happen and evolve, sometimes just seems like R-oss seems to freeze like a rabbit caught in a cars headlights.

Juddy ain't injured can confirm I saw him at Holland and Barrett he's been back this week training with the team. As for clay and sotiriou, he couldn't confirm so maybe next weekend could be a switch around. And I think we play best as 4-4-2 whenever we go 5-3-2 we are always exposed down the wings. If we go into playing this position we need to force high pressure to keep them in there half but that means not our lump it games.

4-4-2 is an effective formation and the players are used to playing it.
Hope Judd is back in the reckoning soon.

Good bit of football history here, 31 March 1928 the day the Scottish Wembley Wizards tamed England 5-1 !

The Wembley Wizards is a nickname for the Scotland national football team who defeated England 5–1 at Wembley in the 1928 British Home Championship. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wembley_Wizards

He will need some games and training with the team so as to be considered again. Good news he’s fit though.
