You obviously watch the ball & not the player then. (admittedly it's harder on a computer screen)
His work rate & movement of the ball is exceptional. The pressing & chasing down of defenders & defending from the front is so important in the modern game.
I’m not knocking him.
If he keeps on scoring a goal a game, he’s my first name down on the team sheet as well. I’ll take that all season long, thank you very much.
But he still hasn’t been playing well.
RedO, liked your first few comments but that last line shows you just dont get it. At the moment he's a second division striker and at this present time he is quality.
I know your not knocking him but i dont really see what more you want him to do. If he had to change anything to be "playing good" in your thoughts, maybe he would lose the lethal finisher that he has become.
What is it that will make him "playing well" in your eyes...AW same question?
Must want him to do 50 keepie uppies
before trapping the ball on the line ,
getting down on his hands & knees
Then nodding the ball over the goal line .

If we're going to say that its secretly number 2's running things (which is weird because I thought you liked to moan that was Ling) then it seems RE has himself a championship under his belt already

We all knew instantly cisse and Vigoroux were great signings.
I’ve still yet to see Johnson have a good game.
You are one miserable sod.
Think you're missing the point.
He hasn't had a good game but its pretty clear he's the type of player that doesn't really do much for 89 minutes and then pops up with a winner. I think we'll all take that.
My point was general and not specific to this post.

Johnson works his nuts off when he hasn't got the ball add that to his goal scoring record for us makes him a very important player. Churlish to say he's not had a good game yet when he closes people down and makes good runs off the ball clearly some just don't get that, not sure what people expect, his finishing so far has been very good.
Biggest compliment I can pay Johnson is that he reminds me so much of Peter Kitchen who had very little presence or impact outside the penalty area but was a natural goalscorer and if he got a chance odds on he would put it away.

Shortly before the defender made the mistake for DJ's goal, a similar thing happened and he almost got in behind him. That defender was fully aware that Johnson was on him and that's why he made the mistake. That's working hard without the ball, that is.

If you flip it, how many good games did David Mooney have for us?
Often he would saunter about the pitch not offering much but then he'd produce a moment of brilliance.
Don't think Johnson has the ability of Mooney, but offers more with his work rate.

Johnson spends most of the game looking second best to whichever centre half he’s up against. He does chase around a bit, yeah, but he doesn’t dominate them like say Bonne would.
That’s all I’m saying. I’m still more than happy with him this season.
