Big up The Boss
No idea on Plymouth’s squad strength tonight but full credit to Rossy and the players for that.
2-0 down sat halftime, against a league one club, with some of our reserves in the side.
It’s early doors and the competition is obviously not important but got to hand it to R oss who has seemed to really instill some Fight and determination in this squad.
And DJ is something else.

Re: Big up The Boss
Congrats, yes.
But this wasn’t the reserves.
I’ve said this before, and I’ll keep on saying it until you lot all get it. Justin banged on about having a squad of 22 with 2 players in genuine completion for each shirt. He didn’t have time to achieve that. Ross has carried it on and we’re really, really close to that. Different players will get the nod depending on the opposition, how we set up, if we’re home or away etc.

Plymouth made 4 changes from the Saturday and we made 8 changes from Saturday’s starting 11.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:55 pm No idea on Plymouth’s squad strength tonight but full credit to Rossy and the players for that.

Re: Big up The Boss
Sure lots of changes but other than Cisse, and arguably Johnson based on his current goal scoring form, the other nine players could be and indeed will be chosen in our starting eleven.
We have shed loads of competition.

Shakey moments at the back aside that was a great display so credit to Ross, seems to have the players playing with a bit of belief and identity. A lot better going forward than on Saturday so would like to see the likes of JMD and Sotiriou continue into the side. Maybe even Dennis too dare I say it.

Re: Big up The Boss
Yes big up to Ross but literally everyone throughout this club could not be trying harder so let's give them all credit and let's hope they get what they deserve this season.
I remember Russell Slade telling us all that it would be a long time until we had a group like this again.
His group was fantastic but it consisted of around 14 players that miraculously avoided injury and suspension. This group today, under Ross has greater depth in respect of both playing staff, coaching staff and has far greater board room support. Just check out the Plymouth forum saying they threw it away against Orient reserves, when the truth is, pretty much this could have been our first team. Everyone seems to be battling for their place with the right attitude. This sounds simple but in reality rarely happens.
Yes there are area's we can strengthen but generally I believe we are in a good position right now.
Russell Slade's side grew in confidence from a good start. We sang You're only here for the Orient at Wolves because our table topping position created their highest home attendance. There's a certain feeling you get when you know your team is capable of punching above its weight.
.... Sometimes, not very often but sometimes it's f*cking great supporting Leyton Orient.

Re: Big up The Boss
Credit where due, and a settled squad this season may prove a plus over some other L2 teams.
There’s been a lot of criticism in the past of signings, some justified, but I’m looking at three players who have been brought in from the winter window – Vigouroux, Cissé and Johnson – and they’re darn good signings.

We all knew instantly cisse and Vigoroux were great signings.
I’ve still yet to see Johnson have a good game.

Re: Big up The Boss
Agree. Our forwards are on fire at the moment. 21 shots last night with 11 on target when was the last time we achieved that. Must be giving Ross a headache who to select. However we do need a centre half .The likes of Turley and Coulson being fit throughout the season is a concern.Ross is trying to integrate Widdowson in to being a CH. Cannot see that being A good alternative. We are achieving with confidence at a high. Long may it continueEastDerehamO wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 7:38 am Credit where due, and a settled squad this season may prove a plus over some other L2 teams.

Re: Big up The Boss
The lack of cover - as demonstrated when Ling played there and again last night (defensively) - for Cisse is the biggest hole in the squad. At CB we have Happe, Turley, Coulson and Widdowson for the two spots, all of whom are at least adequate.

I mean I’m not getting carried away. Still think we are a lower league two team but agree that with a couple of shrewd signings in midfield and at the back, we could be challenging because of the consistency the squad has is a huge bonus.

Re: Big up The Boss
Think you're missing the point.
He hasn't had a good game but its pretty clear he's the type of player that doesn't really do much for 89 minutes and then pops up with a winner. I think we'll all take that.

Re: Big up The Boss
A goalscoring striker can be absent for 89mins and if he then scores the winner, he's had a good game.
This season so far all his goals have been quality and if that continues we will be challenging for play off's at least. Goalscorers are priceless!!

Not if you ask Ling, they aren't. They are worth about 80k with a small sell on.AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:16 amA goalscoring striker can be absent for 89mins and if he then scores the winner, he's had a good game.

Re: Big up The Boss
Know what you mean but no need to bring Ling into a disscussion about whether Johnson has had a good game. After every match R-oss has praised DJ for his work rate where he harrases and is a nuisance to defenders, other team-mates have said the same.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:17 amNot if you ask Ling, they aren't. He has then also scored important goals mostly match winning goals. All those points show that someone is "having a good game", to say otherwise is pretty ridiculous.

Re: Big up The Boss
You can definitely be a striker and do your job well as opposed to having a good game. A goalkeeper is there to save goals and if it's a clean sheet they've done their job well, even if they faced no shots. They succeeded. DJ does sometimes fit that role and I'd agree we've not seen great performances yet. But I think we'll see an improvement in his all round game in coming weeks soon. He must be absolutely buzzing now and it'll keep showing.

Re: Big up The Boss
You obviously watch the ball & not the player then. (admittedly it's harder on a computer screen)
His work rate & movement of the ball is exceptional. The pressing & chasing down of defenders & defending from the front is so important in the modern game.

Re: Big up The Boss
Watching the second half yesterday, I was reminded of Slade's "this group never gives up" saying about the 13/14 side. There's a whiff of the same mentality about the current squad, if they can keep that going then this could be a good season.RBMarshall wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:24 am Yes big up to Boss but literally everyone throughout this club could not be trying harder so let's give them all credit and let's hope they get what they deserve this season.

Re: Big up The Boss
I’m not knocking him.
If he keeps on scoring a goal a game, he’s my first name down on the team sheet as well. I’ll take that all season long, thank you very much.
But he still hasn’t been playing well.

RedO, liked your first few comments but that last line shows you just dont get it. At the moment he's a second division striker and at this present time he is quality.RedO wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 9:50 amI’m not knocking him.

I know your not knocking him but i dont really see what more you want him to do. If he had to change anything to be "playing good" in your thoughts, maybe he would lose the lethal finisher that he has become.
What is it that will make him "playing well" in your eyes...AW same question?
