Hi mate, sorry for the late reply. Let me explain-
A calorie is a calorie no matter its source - if someone ate 500 calories of sweets, the effect on their health and weight would be the same as someone who ate 500 calories from avocados. You can consume 3000 calories a day by only eating sweets, but if you burned 3000 calories in the same day you wouldn't gain any weight. If you burned 3500 calories a day you'd lose weight, even if you were only eating sweets, because calories out > calories in. I certainly wouldn't recommend such a diet, but that's a fact! It's obesity that causes heart disease, diabetes etc., not the foods directly.
You're thinking of satiety scores rather than calories. Sweets, McDonald's burgers etc. are relatively high in calories (McDonald's actually not as high in calories as people think, but I digress) but are low satiety foods. Fruit and veg are low in calories but nutrient-dense and generally high satiety foods. That means if I ate a happy meal for lunch at 500 cal, I'd probably be hungry again within an hour and therefore at risk of overeating. If I ate some chicken, pasta and a salad with the same amount of calories, it'd fill me up for longer. However if I had the first meal and didn't eat afterwards despite my urges to,
there would be no further effect on my body or my health.
The last para is what a lot of people fail to understand and why we've miseducated just about everyone into thinking they can't have certain foods or they'll get fat.
Hope this makes sense
You seem to be overlooking the link between salt and high blood pressure

Long way of agreeing with me that it’s the type of foods you eat not the calories that matter

Well no, calories do matter because if you have too many for the amount you move you’ll gain weight
I was trying to be helpful but since you’ve chosen ignorance I’ll leave it there

Would you agree that it’s not how many calories you have it’s what nutritional value something has, how much sugar, etc...
I know you’re trying to look smart but you’re just agreeing with what I’ve already posted

Ok, if a friend came to you asking how they could lose weight, what would your advice to them be?

Weight maybe, but not health, you're forgetting nutritional content.

I’m not sure where weight came into it? We were talking about nutrition and specifically diabetes in the opening post.
I don’t think you don’t know about weight loss, you clearly do but that wasn’t anyone’s point and you decided to do a LMAO at me and post a long, detailed post completely missing the point.

In pure energy terms a calorie is a calorie. It’s just a term for energy.
In terms of how the body processes different types of calories, the effects are very different. Not all calories are equal In effect. It makes a difference. How energy is stored, used and dissipated is very different. So eating 500 calories from one source is very different from eating 500 calories from a different source in terms if impact.

Technically a calorie isnt just a calorie
100 calories of grapes is better than a 100 calories of Raisins.
Why ?
Because the grapes contain Water .

Yeah, and it's even better if you turn the grapes into wine. That has water too.

Wine has more sugary alcohol though
So not really as good at all.
Still it lowers blood pressure

Right, I am gonna try & educate you lot. Carbohydrates are complicated and variable. They way the body reacts with them depends on the carbohydrate and how you get it. Sugars mostly are adsorbed immediately by the body and can cause a very high spike in blood glucose almost immediately. Sucrose ( sugar ) can be considered as 2 molecules of glucose and is therefore very bad news for diabetics ( probably not so good for normal humans). Starch begins to get broken down by an enzyme in your gob, and this quickly gets turned into glucose and is rapidly absorbed by the body. A large proportion of white bread, is pure starch and again is bad news. As is white rice and normal pasta. Hence problems with Asians and diabetes. Potatoes again very very high in starch.
Now this is where it gets complicated: wholemeal products make it harder for the body to break down their starch and it get converted to glucose more slowly and is released into the body more gradually. Also when you tuck into a meal of many separate ingredients, like a Sunday roast, the starch is affected by the high fibre foods and again this is released more slowly, some of it binds on the fibre and passes out undigested. Often I can get away with have Spotted willy on a Sunday if there is a nice lot of veg on my plate!
This is why we should avoid snacking. A Bounty bar on it's own, will bombard your body with glucose. Crisps and biscuits the same.

What you havent done is discussed the correlation between eating sweet sugary desert
After eating protein ( meat ) sweet sugars help the preotein to be broken
down in the digestive system, food & calories are not just specific to carbs .
Hence why a balanced diet is essential
Carbs should be lowish as should protein
Fruit & veg should be plentiful .
Excercise should be regular.
I know all of what is needed, but im a lazy git & have a sweet tooth
I Eat far to much carb & protein not enough fruit & veg & excercise
Irregularly .
Oh & i smoke too

My original post in here was responding to tuffers’ video of Tyson Fury’s diet detailing calories, to which you responded most people have no clue about diet and looking after themselves

Bloody hell, when did this board get so many armchair dieticians and nutritionists?
Doh Nut - you’re confusing calories with macro and micronutrients
West Side - absolute nonsense that we should avoid snacking
tuffers - what are you on about? Carbs and protein don’t need to be low in order to keep in shape. If you’re overweight it’s because you consume more calories than you expend, not because you have too much carbs or too much protein
You need to stop believing this pseudoscience that complicates health and fitness. It’s really not hard to understand

Why do you assume im talking about being overweight or losing weight ?
Diet is about keeping a healthy body ,
Something i learned probably about age 13 when my old man had to
change his entire diet due to heart problems .
Ive been interested ever since , not for personal use as ive always done enough to keep
In reasonable shape , barr the last 3 or 4 years .
Diet is as important to individual organs in the body ,
Diabetes heart problems life expectancy can all be changed dramatically
From a well planned diet .
Just to expand the point of low carb low protein , the body really
doesnt need large amounts of carbs & protein , it can garner much more energy
from fruit & veg as it takes less energy to turn those into body fuel.
A high ( meat) protein diet means more energy is used to digest & benefit
The body , same with carb rich diets .
Pseudoscience

A bit oversimplified, no?
You clearly know your stuff but to just day you need to burn more carbs than you consume isn’t that helpful. Eating too many carbs turns into fats, too many high GI carbs also turns into fat and messes with blood sugar levels. There’s also the fact that eating more carbs, at least more meals, increases metabolic rate and helps you burn more efficiently

If you start at the very beginning ( as Julie Andrews once said ) a very good place to start. You will see my original posting was about a diabetic Traveller bedfellow. Hence my concentration on the role of carbohydrates.
