I'm doing one of those 20 questions things, and we've narrowed it down (badly), but have used up our 20 questions. So, now we just have a final guess.
It's a song by a British rock group of either 2 or 3 members, at least one of whom is now dead. They were active in the 70s or 80s, but they're not punk or electronic. They name doesn't include members' names (e.g. Emerson, Lake and Palmer) and the song we're trying to get is an upbeat number with less than 3 words in the title (which is part of the chorus). It's been in the top 10 in either UK or US, but was not a UK no. 1.
Totally out of ideas
I like my music but you bamboozled me here by throwing in a few red herrings. (1) The Outfield began recording during the MID 1980s; (2) It only reached 83 in the UK chart in 1986. I'm not surprised you did not get the answer

I think I literally went through every other band it could have been, but these guys threw me.
Because of the questions we asked, we knew the song was post 60's but pre 90's and we only knew it was in the top 10 in either US or UK. There were a group of us asking the questions and some were frankly dreadful.

Genesis started life as a five piece, then four and then the album 'And Then There Were Three'. Started in the late 60s and have a tour planned for later this year.

The 80's Genesis bared little comparison to the earlier ones, even though two members were in the band throughout and the drummer joined in 70.

Genesis started well, but then there was Exodus.

Early Genesis was prog rock but the later version produced a far more commercial sound.

My brother wound me up for years that he was inside the gorilla costume on the Cadbury Phil Collins chocolate ad. Well he was in the accounts dept at JWT Advertising agency so it was plausible.
