Been to the province of Lecce (Gallipoli) but not the city
What was Gallipoli like? It looks like its an interesting old town, with decent beaches nearby.
This was back in 1992 so memory is a bit hazy but yeah, an interesting place on the sea, very different from the north of the country obviously. Nice cathedral too. Went there from Alborabello and then onto Taranto which were also worth a visit.

Yep, but 40 years ago on a Med backpacking jolly after sixth form A levels. Nice historic centre, and the nearby coastal town are good too. But I agree with Pammy that Bari is the more interesting city down that way.
