I like Sardine or Mackerel sandwiches
You can get a tin of either for less than a £1
Bit fresh onion and you have a nice healthy freshly made sarnie for next to nothing. Pack crisps out of multi bag a bit of fruit you have a lunch for £1.50

Plus we'd have to consider the costs of the time and energy making it.

Yes but I tend to be a bit fussy about food preparation and I’m happier having something I have made myself. I don’t really eat much meat. Prefer fish. Takes very little time. I don’t like mayo or ketchup much either. Quite a plain foodie. I have stuff in my car like wooden spoons and stuff so I can eat out of a tin. I find it better than stuff been made and frozen down then defrosted like this ‘garage sarnies’.

Fish probably lot longer, they last years. All good protein,oily fish (recommend by NHS, eggs.

Nuts are good source protein and fibre. I carry a small tub of mixed in my pocket.

Many supermarkets are a bit ambiguous about what's included in the deal and what's not. I've been stung a few times by taking a drink which was apparently not included in the deal ( although sitting beside all the other drinks that are included) I think they are a trap for the unwary.

Sardines, mackerel, pilchards, slid, sprats, cod roe, any tinned fish. I use wooden spoons as they are free and disposable, no washing up required.
Cannot stand Tuna, tinned or fresh.

I generally go with the highest value items, regardless of how much I like them, just to make the biggest saving. Sadly this usually means picking up one of those super healthy smoothie drinks.
