On the subject of evacuee children, I’ve got this brain itch - I’m sure there was a word other than “evacuation” that was specifically used to describe the concept of kids being homed in the country during the war, a term so closely associated with it that it was like, the name of a project in primary schools etc, and very evocative of that Lion Witch and Wardrobe idea of evacuated kids. Anyone got any idea?

The IWM uses the terms evacuees and evacuated, and I can't recall any other terms being used. But, at the time, it was referred to officially as Operation Pied Piper.

It will get the racists frothing at the mouth, but Blitz isn't woke.

It telling the story of a mixed race kid (played by a mixed race actor) who gets lost whilst being evacuated during the blitz. There's a genuine story to be told about the existence of black people during that period of history.

What would have been woke (or an example of hyper-representation) would be to tell the story of ordinary people who were typical of the time, but just race swap the actors in a manner to suggest that current levels of racial, ethnic and religious diversity are the historic norm.

I see the new Boots Christmas TV adert has been shot down in flames . Many people are now saying they will avoid Boots this Christmas . What's that old saying " Go woke ,go broke".

Can't believe anyone still actually watches adverts, but those who revel in being offended will be glued to their tellies in the run up to Christmas I would imagine

The boots advert is designed as rage bait, and some people have duly obliged.
The idea that the people complaining about it are reacting to something that wasn’t carefully calibrated to provoke exactly that reaction is ludicrous.

Agreed. The advertising agencies are playing a dangerous game.

I’ve just watched the advert (on my phone whilst the football is on so couldn’t really hear what the actors were saying).

The agency have cast a black actress who put herself on the radar during the King's coronation by describing the Royal family as "terribly white". It's clearly done to generate outrage, which is a strategy to ensure everyone is talking about Boots.

Never heard of her myself but presumably she put herself ‘on the radar’ with acting roles in Bridgerton, Casualty and Hollywood films with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman?

Well, yes, but I meant the radar of people who are willing biting on the rage bait. I doubt they'd have been fans of her body of work prior to Terribly-White-gate.
