12 more months of deadwood. Hurrah! Season of struggle coming up and then we can offload all the sentimental contract decisions like Dayton, Harrold and this latest move (though this one is more based on Alabi’s refusal to move to Torquay, amongst others). Carlisle, Macc and FGR should save us from returning to the wilderness.

Maybe Macclesfield will but Carlisle and Forest Green certainly won't. I'm still concerned that our squad isn't strong enough and with Alabi being one of our four main strikers, I fear we're in for a season of real struggle .

FGR have flogged off the family silver - like us - and not replaced them anywhere near adequately. I suggest looking into the troubles going on at Carlisle; lost a lot of players, about to sell Hallam Hope to Blackpool and not offering any more than 1-year deals. They’re in bother.

Ok, I didn't know that. Still, we can't rely on others being worse than us. I'll be happier if and when we further strengthen the squad.

It's going to be a long old season.
My goodness you are so right.
Possibly. Then again, I seem to remember a lot of people on here saying the same thing about last season because we had basically the same squad as the previous year. Last season didn't end too badly, as I recall.
Personally, I've liked watching Alabi, even though he hasn't scored as many as he probably should have, and there is no doubt that he seems to be very popular within the squad. One thing that Justin was pretty hot on was building a squad that was bigger than the sum of its parts. I'm pleased that Ross appears to be carrying that on, albeit apparently going against Justin's thoughts on the player in question (which arguably, makes him his own man).

I'm pleased for Alabi and I hope he does well. For the record, I think he WILL do well.
And before anyone asks, I don't really know why - It's just a feeling in the same way that I don't know why I thought Bonne would do OK when plenty dismissed him as a third rate reject when we signed him.

Anyway, I'm prepared to give him and the team a chance.
We can see who is right at the end of the season.
I don’t remember a single person saying it would be a long old season last year. You’ve just made that up.

Really sounds like we should have won that on the balance of play. But that's how it goes, we should have lost against Barrow, can't really complain.

Wonder if Alabi might be considered for a go in his proper position after that? Currently it seems almost absurd that Bonne should be dropped or even subbed in a game, but it's a long old season.

:-)

I seriously doubt Alabi will still be with us this time next year. I think most of us know he's simply not good enough.

Agreed. The problem is this time until then.

Kitch above is right - if we have to actually rely on him, heaven help us.

Alabi will not start while Wilko & Angol are both available. He will come on 10/15 mins from the end, to add 'something different' to the mix. My worry is, if Wilko or Angol get injured and are out for a long time, we are in trouble, because Alabi isnt good enough. He wasnt good enough in a league below, so logic tells us he wont be now either.
Also, its disappointing, as this puts young Ruel further down the pecking order, which is a shame as I believe that young man could turn out to be a prolific striker one day soon

Puts Ruel further down the pecking order?

It could be that Sotiriou is now 4th choice with Alabi 5th.

It’s a copout Tony. Until you get off the fence, don’t disagree with fair predictions from others?
