Emotions aside (and I agree he’s a ledge that pushed us over the line last season) and pure cold hard football business logic head on. Jobi is probably one of our top earners and he’s gonna end up playing in about 9 games all season. The PLAYING contract was a mistake, especially as it could have paid for a quality player or two extra. I can’t see how that could be debated but there you go.
Glad to have him back
The issue is more that his rehab was botched by the team that Ling brought in over the summer. See also: Turley, Dennis, and various other small knocks that have turned into longer absences.
It’s not just the fitness levels that’s been an issue this season, it also that we’ve had a lot more injuries and lengthy rehabs. Jobi should have been available a lot sooner.
Any road, I’d say the expense of keeping Jobi on the staff, for what he brings around the dressing room, is worth it in the short and long term (assuming he sticks around and does go on to take the real leadership role that we can all see he’s capable of). And much better value than the money we’ve spunked on Fletcher, paying off Webb, and on Ling himself.
That’s a really interesting point.
Who is our medical team looking after our players?
I know we established that the old fitness team were outed last summer and a new guy (ex Swindon, surprise surprise) came in, which has gone part way to explaining our poor conditioning this season. But I wasn’t aware there had been other changes as well?

Any player that happens to be injured for a large chunk of a season isn’t going to be value for money. This is a really strange argument.
From the 15 minutes or whatever it was in Saturday, it was evident that he will be able to do it next season for us. His first contribution in the game was a 10 yard sprint back to his goal line where he pissed pass the Cambridge player and cleared the ball. He actually looked quicker than the later stages of last season where he was carrying this groin problem.
It’s not just about that anyway, it’s everything else he brings. Cisse has been in charge of the midfield but even he was looking to Jobi for instruction.

I am convinced when a player is injured and is signed off by a doctors with a medical certificate lofc will be able to claim on their insurance policy a portion or all of their costs
They must have some sort of insurance in place to protect the club maybe the club could explain what happens to the overhead costs on a injured player
In Australia we have workers compensation which is an insurance policy where if you are injured at work and cannot work the claimable costs by the employer include wages / on costs/ medial costs : etc
He was playing through the same injury at the end of last season. The club new he was injured. I’d agree if it was something random. Especially considering his age, any injury could put him out for a long time.

au contraire - I have plenty of evidence. But no, I won't be sharing it with you. I also accept that this means you won't believe me, but I'm perfectly comfortable with that - and it doesn't change the inherent truth of the claim at all.

I am not convinced.
Only injured players on international duty have their wages etc covered by their home nation via an insurance policy. The only time a club can receive compensation is if the player has to retire through injury.
To claim everytime someone gets injured the premiums would be unaffordable hence why they don't have such cover.

I don't recall a single person questioning that contract renewal at the time. Everyone wanted him to extend for a year.

Definitely this. Also, he is the only member of the squad, who is capable of in game management, as he proved on numerous occasions last season, especially at the latter part. Definitely worth the gamble of another year, in my opinion, a real asset.
Dannie Bulman is 41 and he has played more than 30 games for Crawley this season. Jobi looks fit and interested to keep on playing. I hope he will sign a new deal. And, by giving him a new deal he will stay at the club which I think is really good thing.
Nobody could deny, that along with Justin, Jobi was a major reason why we won the National League last season. For me it is not about sentiment, even at his age, he is more than capable of another season in League Two. After all we are not asking him to play Champions League!
