Josh is a very technically gifted player who , throughout his career , has never played in a team who are at the top of their game. He is not a player for a struggling or poor side. He can keep a good side going by recycling possession. He can’t do much for a team with zero confidence

Not the only one obviously. He got MOTM didn't he?
Yeah by the plasterer company who appears on / sponsors the club (sorry, unofficial) podcast. Nuff said really.
You should give up. Clay was our best player yesterday, a few people have called out your ratings & you keep on digging. Why have a pop at other fans just because they have a different opinion to yours.
You come across as very self righteous. Maybe you should show us your coaching badges & League winners medals to prove you're an expert.
People are having constructive debate on them, that's the point of posting the thread. Only one person getting touchy and that's you :clown

The Clay thing is interesting, on FB it's split the same way, those who think he's MOTM for running around a bit and "trying" vs those who see powderpuff tackles, misplaced passes and a chasm in CM Oldham owned for the first 45 mins.

Ahhh the old "are you a manager" line... the hallmark of someone with no other sensible argument. Try harder next time...

So if he's never played in a team at the top of its game, how do we know he can keep a good side going? It's just speculation - however, we do know that Bradford and Gills fans were only too happy to see the back of him.

Marsh - 5. Got done by their winger a couple of times and then they bewilderingly switched his side whence he became utterly ineffective against Brophy.
Brophy - 6.5 - Quiet first half, better 2nd with some link up with JMD. Worryingly looks like our main threat.
Happe - 6.5 Steady enough.
Coulson - 5 fairly sure his man for both goals
JMD - 5 - some flashes but generally quiet
Cisse 7 - usual stuff with the odd misplaced pass. Simple and effective.
Clay - 7.5 (MOM). Best performance for some time but still based on him being less turd than those around him
Wright - 3. Ineffective in and out of possession. Frustratingly slows everything down to his pace (which is glacial). No tempo to his play, not sure what RE is seeing.
Johnson 4 - marked up from 3 for his 8 inch tap in. I’ll reserve judgement for the moment but perhaps there’s a reason he’s spent most of his career at lower level
Wilkinson 5 - V quiet. Suspect early tackle on him put him back in a box form which he never got out of.

Subs:

Sotiriou 7 - morons like ability to raise the crowd and the game.

Embleton - would love to know if there’s a plan B when 4-3-3 doesn’t work. Besides Johnson’s goal in the 2nd half, don’t remember us creating hardly anything. Oldham were there for the taking at 2-2 but we hardly stretched them after the equaliser.

The idea of Ling / Embleton taking us into next season is seriously p*ssing me off. I’d accept games like today if it felt like a blip during some progress but I honestly don’t see any.
Here is admin a man who actually watched the game. Fair comments and marks on all. I’m gonna add to Johnson on another post.
He basically copied and pasted my post.

I wonder if there’s a reason why Josh has only ever played in struggling sides?

Like the fact every team he’s played in is effectively playing with 10 men.

It’s not split though is it?

Yesterday was as good as I’ve seen him play. He’s not great on the ball, I know. He’ll need three touches where Cisse would only need one. But he was effective offensively, getting into great positions and creating stuff (even if a lot of the time his final pass was a tackle 😀).

From what I've read on the FB groups and even within this thread there's one camp of MOTM and the other saying poor. Don't often see that variation in rating.

Your point about the touches is exactly what I'm getting at, one point he could've clipped a first time cross into the box but took 4-5 touches and got closed down. Still strikes me as a good NL player but not going to get you top half or above in L2.

I think you confuse a strong opinion with self-righteousness. I know the former seemingly isn't tolerated by either the club nor the "clapplier" element of the fanbase these days. Frankly getting bored of the club spin / PR machine, which includes the podcasts and radio shows and seems unable to take any form of hard questioning / criticism.

If you've not already seen it I'd recommend checking out Peter Kitchen's weekly column in the Yellow Advertiser. He calls it how it is and that's coming from a club legend pro who played the game at a high level. One of the things he said on FB is that he wants to remain completely impartial, I can see what he's getting at there.
