Editing Brophy's rating now having seen that :xxx
How is that Brophy fault?
The fact he's not even in shot and the goal comes from his area of the pitch?

You need a greater view than that picture shows. In a defensive position like we were going backwards, you would want the left back tucked inside of the Macclesfield player shown in that picture wide of coulson. Our centre defenders are in a decent shape, although again it’s hard to work out the wider context to their attack. If Brophy was in the last third of the pitch as part of an attack then then it’s not possible for him to beat say a long ball forwards and get back into the teams shape. Then you get the remaking three defenders to move across the line covering the space on our left as a pass going from right to left is not really going to happen that often so your shape is then Good and coverage to our left back position is tight.

We need to see the bigger picture of the pattern of play to see what went wrong.

Look at the goal back in the highlights then and it’s pretty clear.

Our goal kick which Angol doesn’t come near to winning. Ball breaks to their 7, the right winger who Brophy is pushed up on, who hooks it forward.

The problem here is that Marsh isn’t covering round on the bloke just in shot. We are effectively 3 v 3 with Cisse busting a gut to get back and make it 4 v 3 in our favour. But because Marsh hasn’t tucked in, Marvin has to watch what should be Marsh’s man and the bloke on the ball, and Coulson has to watch his man (the goalscorer) and the bloke on the ball. We’re effectively in a 2 v 3 because of Marsh’s poor positioning.

I’m blamin Marsh here but accept he’s not a natural full back so this will happen, also the centre halves should have seen the issue before it happened and called him back inside.

Brophy is at fault for not being tighter to the 7 who hooked the ball on, just as Angol is at fault for losing the header so easily and just as Cisse is for letting his man get wrong side of him. But the main issue here is Marsh.

Also, special mention to Marv who came so close to producing an incredible goal line clearance.

Kind of this.

Cisse has let his man break but if Marsh is across marking Marvs man, Marvin can go to the ball and Josh can stay with his man.
