Can't agree about it being a major error. It's clear we hadn't anticipated getting out of the NL so quickly. We were promoted in year 1 of his deal and he would have been fine in the NL in year 2. He's just not what we need at the moment to improve in League Two and we've now been able to ship him out.
Of course it was a major error. It’s incredible to think that our only business in the summer of 2018 was to bring in Gorman and Alabi.
Just goes to show how good Martin Ling & Steve Foster's recruitment was in 2017 then, bearing in mind we went up as Champs.

I'm happy for him. Too much was expected off him considering he was injured. He wasn't giving enough of a chance and when he was contributing he was always scapegoated and taken off as first sub. I remember when he signed, people on the old board were on his back from day one. Ross has his undropables and Gorman wasn't going to sit on his arse not been able to get a regular run in a crap midfield. He turned down multiple clubs to sign for us. He was part of the most successful Northern Ireland under 21 team.Things are toxic at the moment in Leyton. More may follow. I wish him all the best. One thing he will get at Newport is a proper manager.

It's not a case of being silly, it's just a matter of looking into more than just games playes. If we're still in the NL then chances are he's an established midfielder for us and we're thinking differently. It's only because we were promoted that having him on the books doesn't look as good because he's not what we need now. We've also shipped him out after 18 months so it's not like the contract was unmoveable. That's not a major error no matter how stubborn you are. Signing the likes of Brill and Coulson to new deals are major errors. You cannot compare those to Gorman signing for us.

Alabi was a terrible signing, but Gorman I think was a case of taking a punt on a player who could have made a difference to the team once over his injury. We were promoted in year 1 of his contract and he didn't get the chance to show what he could do in year 2 on a regular basis because he's not what we need this season at a higher level. That's hardly a major error.

Ok, I kind of agree with you. If you view him as a punt, then yeah, it was worth a gamble. But he came in as the Ebou Adams replacement, something he’s failed miserably to live up to.

It's not irrelevant because we signed him based on what he could potentially do for us in the NL. We're no longer playing in the NL and he's not alone in being a player that would have been fine for us at the level below but no longer is suitable for us.

His injury situation last season was far from ideal, agreed, but he was signed on a two year contract and clearly he wasn't going to feature at this level as he's not what we need. That makes him an unsuitable player that we needed to move on now we have been promoted, not a major error.

Yep, definitely no Ebou Adams unfortunately. The fact he was considered an alternative when they are very different is strange. Thank goodness it didn't ultimately cost us though.

No. If you want to get out of the NL you sign fit players from the league above.

I may be willing to accept this was a glaring error rather than a major one. Are you able to agree?

Are you saying Justin Edinburgh ( GRHS)
Made a mistake or 2 ?
Of course he did.

But I still don’t reckon they were his players. I don’t pin them on him.
This was on the Newport website, though admittedly possible that Flynn is making an assumption.

"After the signing was completed, Manager Michael Flynn said: "It's great news to get Dale in. He's another who will add competition to the squad, he's a fierce tackler and was very highly thought of by Justin Edinburgh as well who signed him."

Dale is a much better footballer than Wright, Marsh and Clay. Shame we didn't see the best of him. If he had of got as much game time as the others, I'm sure we would have seen it but the players we have in CM would make anybody look bad. It's the manager, tactics and formation too. You're always going to get overrun in midfield unless things change. Newport tried to sign him just before he came here too along with another number of teams like Motherwell. There was such negativity about lack of signings at that time, Dale was a scapegoat by some who said we aren't going to get promoted as we haven't signed anybody, remember those days. Good luck Dale.

I don't see many looking for Alabi, it hasn't worked out for him but hopefully he will get a move too.

I said at the time it was ridiculous to sign a player with a long term injury. I stand by that. I was annoyed then. I still am.

Ling signed him and tried to sell it to the fans as this is the player that’s better than Adams. I don’t need to say anything else really do I?

This is not a dig at Gorman as I liked him as a player and felt sorry he was never given an opportunity to lock down a place this season even when he played well.

Didn't think he was too bad.
He at least looked for the forward pass, unlike the rest.
Never really got a run, and when he did get a game was very prone to a booking or ridiculous tackle.
Clearly wasn't going to get a new contract, so it's right to ship him out.
Alabi next please.

This is not a dig at Gorman as I liked him as a player and felt sorry he was never given an opportunity to lock down a place this season even when he played well.
Of course it’s not his fault. He always tried. Possibly too hard, with some of those horrific tackles.

If we’d have signed Adams as the certainty and Dale as the ‘punt’, as SF has called him, then it would have been a worthwhile gamble, I totally agree. But it was only going to be one or the other, so as a replacement for Adams he has to be classed as a total failure.

Thinking about it, has he even featured for us after that game against Ebou when he totally lost the plot, trying to do Adams at every occassion and handing them the game when the rest of the team lost the plot as well?
