Parking on Francis Road

Post by Harlow »

Hi guys

On Saturday parked on Francis Road just off Leyton High Road (just across from the cricket ground) which we have done many times but my mate got a parking ticket. Last time I checked Saturday parking was ok (some of the nearby streets do restrict Saturdays). Does anyone know if the rules have been changed.

There was an event in the cricket ground starting at 5pm but we saw nothing at all to suggest either rule changes or temporary parking restrictions.

My mate has appealed but any info would be appreciated.

Thanks to all

Permit parking is Monday to Friday, however from memory I believe single yellow line parking is Monday to Saturday.

So if parked in a parking bay then the appeal should get overturned, unless parking was suspended due to the event, though would have noticed the signs that would have been put up.

Actually I’ve just street viewed where you parked and there are no single yellow lines, didn’t park on a double yellow did you?

Tell your mate to pay the ticket and in future not just assume that parking restrictions never change.

Contesting a ticket without even being sure if you did or did break any restrictions is just plain stupid.

What, by doing their job?

I came up there on Saturday and there were yellow cones out at the very bottom/top end, didn’t notice any signs as to why though.

Good luck with the appeal.

The Councils are voracious in chasing this kind of cash, as they have to pay for all their lobotomised schemes somehow, and parking is one of the biggest ker-chings in their weaponry of doing so...

Always worth a go, I successfully appealed once as there was no ticket on my car, it was only when I received the chase letter that I knew about it and appealed on the basis that the letter failed to show photographic evidence.

I remember watching a TV program about this kind of thing and a bloke successfully appealed a driving in a bus lane penalty as the dimensions of the painted lines were out by a couple of centimetres and thus it was deemed that it was not an authorised bus lane.

Back to the OP, seems that cones were put out to suspend parking, but possibly a suggestion that notices were not displayed? Might be worth checking to see if putting down cones is sufficient to suspend parking.

What a moronic statement. The OP asked for help. This kind of comment does you a disservice.

Thanks for the comments and advice. Huxley, re your comment about not assuming the rules haven't changed is fair enough but how many of us do this every time we park. Another guy parked as we did and was still there when we left-guessing he was caught out as well.

I should also mention that I cant find anything on Waltham Forest council website. I did call a number (from the website) and asked how I could check parking rules, or did he know. He said there were too many to know. I asked how traffic wardens knew, he said because they know the area.

Anyway people have a Great Christmas, certainly feeling upbeat after yesterdays win.

Hello Harlow

same thing happened to me. And I checked when I turned up, as the restrictions are irregular up there. The closest most visible sign to me (two bays away) showed restrictions were only in place Mon-Fri. Got back after the match to see I'd been ticketed. When I looked it up online, they did have some photographic evidence, but it also showed that a big van was parked right behind me. A quick search on Google Earth revealed that that was exactly where the sign that they'd displayed the temporary restrictions would have been.

So, basically, they did a poor job of notifying people of the temporary restrictions. I am contesting it, and will let you know how I get on, if you want. Seems a bit crap to me to just put one small note on one sign that could easily be obscured by a moderately large vehicle being parked in front of it.

Thanks Disorientated. As we parked a pale blue people carrier type car pulled up behind us, I am guessing about 100 yards from the High road. could that have been you. I sent an email to WF council and a guy called but couldn't tell me about any additional parking regs. He said on street view it shows Monday-Friday. Someone is taking the P I think

Ha, no not me. You are right though - this seems like an obvious money-making exercise from WF council.
