Didn't see the Oldham game but this one must've run it close for worst name to watch. Neither side did enough to win but good to see us looking more solid at the back. Can't see Coulson getting back in the side unless we sell Happe and / or Ekpiteta in January.
Sargeant - 8 - MOTM been critical of him in the past but solid today. Two important saves, the second one low down and going back across him probably goes in if Brill was playing
Happe - 7 - rock solid, put in some stonking tackles and vital last ditch block in first half
Turley - 7 - again our back line looks fat better with him playing. Caught once or twice but overall solid
Ekpiteta - 7 as per Happe and Turley. Be a tough ask to keep him in January
Judd - 6 - more impressive than Ling, some useful crosses but a bit twitchy on the ball at times. Needs to stay fit to cement that spot.
Clay - 6 - decent workrate off the ball, not so good on it
Marsh - 6 - similar to Clay without the ropey passing
Wright - 6 - similar to Marsh
JMD - 7 - our best attacking outlet, great crosses shame no one was getting on the end of them
Angol - 7 - worked hard leading the line but being fed scraps. We need to find a better way to utilise him as there's a player there.
Wilkinson - 6 - out wide doesn't suit him but again he's got good feet when we can get him involved
Subs
Brophy - 6 - looked lively but not much time to make an impact
Overall a point gained, stopped the rot and leaking of goals at home. Shout out for Sargeant who had probably his best game for us and seems to have started to believe he can take over fr Brill.
Two quality signings in CM and ST could transform this side and get the most out of our attacking players. Both Angol and Wilkinson look handy but they're too similar to play together imo. Didn't really look like scoring today, a couple of half chances but nothing more than that.
With someone to link up with we could see a much more potent attack. CM as always needs the midfield general so we don't need to play 3 in there to do the work of 2.
Got to try and hold onto Happe and Ekpiteta in January, going to be tough ask though.

Re: Ratings thread
The defence looked solid today and possibly the best it's been. I thought Turley and Marv were both worth 8 and Judd a 7. No way can ling get back in if fit next week. In midfield I thought Clay worked his socks off and had possibly his best game today and was worth a 7 along with Marsh the rest I agree with.
If we can work and build on that defensive display things will start to turn as we will have taken confidence from that performance. Although they were there for the taking, if we had more conviction in our play we would have also certainly have got a goal.

Best we've defended for weeks and deserved clean sheet.
Fair ratings - Didn't think Sargeant was MOTM though as we in the main restricted them to few openings, but he did what he did well.
3 games in a row Turley has played and he's been excellent, long may it continue.

I gave it to him for two vital stops for the only times Bradford has what I'd call clear-cut chances..The Big Shot wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:07 pm

First half the 1v1 where Bradford pacey forward got wrong side of Turley and into the box but keeper positioned well and made the save
Second half best save of the game, the shot was low, through bodies and Sargeant had to dive back across, get down low and hold the ball with striker closing in. Had that been Brill on recent form it goes in.
Today was the first game where I watched Sargeant in goal and thought "yeah, he looks like a first-choice keeper". Until now he's had that air of not quite believing he's ready to be there but today seemed more confident.

Agreed, that was the best Sargeant has played for us. The save in the second half was good as was the fact that he did not parry the ball as there was a Bradford player ready to follow up.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:12 pmI gave it to him for two vital stops for the only times Bradford has what I'd call clear-cut chances..The Big Shot wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:07 pm

Bradford did not have a single corner in the game, so they did not have the opportunity to put him under pressure from a set piece, which is where he has often looked suspect in the past.

Re: Ratings thread
Don’t get the negativity, I enjoyed that. We were the better side, put the necessary effort in everywhere, solid at the back and lively up front. Just missing that bit of quality in midfield but we know that already. It was scandalous that Hector was dropped after last weeks performance where he had a great full debut, it’s a disgusting decision.
Sarge - not much to do to be honest, kicking not as solid as would normally expect but made one excellent save when called on at the end. Brill would not have got it, it’s as simple as that.
Judd - yet again, comes in after weeks out, taking abuse from senior employees at the club and puts in a cracking performance like that. He makes such a massive difference to the tempo the whole team plays at. There is literally no way he can get dropped after that showing. But fully expect to see Ling start anyway.
Happe - man mountain. Only criticism is he doesn’t bomb on but with Myles in the other side, it’s not too big an issue.
Marvin - again good game after a few weeks out. Helps having Turley alongside him.
Turley - should be our skipper. Arguably is already anyway, armband or not. Didn’t allow them a look in, led a relatively young back line superbly, my MOTM. I won’t mention him punching their bloke in the head as he laid on the floor as he got away with it.
Wright/Marsh/Clay - firstly it was ridiculous to drop Hector after last weeks showing, he deserves better treatment than that. All 3 competed but there’s not enough quality on the ball between them.
Angol - a handful all game. We look so much better with him.
Wilkinson - in and out but worth his place for when he’s in. Amazingly quick feet for a lump s at this level. It’s a shame we haven’t got s decent central midfielder cos would love to go 4-4-2 with him and Angol working more closely together.
JMD - doesn’t beat his bloke like Brophy does but put in some great crosses. Worthy of his start.
Brophy - not long enough to make an impact.

It's interesting how people see the game. Walking down brisbane road after the game I said to my 11 year old son "who do you think was MOTM" he said "Sargent" I then asked him "did you actually watch the game" and he replied "yes, he didn't make a mistake, played well, made a couple of good saves at important times and kicked really well"The Big Shot wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:07 pm Best we've defended for weeks and deserved clean sheet.

So whilst I disagreed with him, its interesting that he and gshaw see things in the same light.

Re: Ratings thread
Haven't seen much negativity around, what have you seen? Despite the defensive solidity it was a pretty horrible game to watch, dour goalless draw in the cold lacking any real quality. Take the point but it won't be a game that'll live long in the memory that's for sure.
Not quite sure how to take that lol but I make the lad right. Certainly seems more deserving of MOTM than Marsh, who did OK but didn't stand out to me.Thor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:43 pm

Despite the ref doing his best to ruin it.

Marsh was fully combative in midfield - why do Clay and Wright have to be so, so hesitant in midfield?? Excellent second-half performance...

Re: Ratings thread
One thing I find with Marsh when we get a break he tends to slow it down and look sideways or backwards rather than trying to find a cutting through ball. Happened a few times in the first half when there was an out ball to Wilkinson wide right. All the CMs put in a decent shift today but can't help feeling one real quality signing there could do the work of 2 of them.Give it to Jabo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:19 pm Marsh was fully combative in midfield - why do Clay and Wright have to be so, so hesitant in midfield?? That’s why we have to play 3 in there.

Re: Ratings thread
I came away from the Ground today feeling a lot more positive than in recent home games.
Ok not the greatest game but I enjoyed the far improved performance and one that with just a little luck we could have won.
Apart from one hairy moment in the 1st half, our defence looked far more solid with Turley and Marv’ at its heart, and Sargeant’s 2nd half save was excellent.
I tend to think that Brophy offers more threat than JMD going forward, but JMD did put in a great cross in the 1st half when Wilko hit the bar.
I certainly expected more from Bradford and their excellent backing, but for me both FGR and Swindon were better.
Overall a much better performance and with just a little quality or luck a game we could have won.

Swindon were excellent, best footballing side we've had down here this season. FGR in the mould of their manager and midfielder, scummy horrible team that we gave two sloppy goals away to.

This. He was on a par if not better than Angol, who was tiring badly with 15 to go. Sargent definitely must start from now on.
Not sure why Embleton didn't throw Harold on for the last 10 - there were tired legs out there.

Judd is an all or nothing player. If he gets beaten to the punch we're in trouble. Luckily today he got there most times.RedO wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:30 pm Don’t get the negativity, I enjoyed that. I think it was fair enough to not play Kyprianou today given the opposition. He had a good game at Oldham but he's still so young and the three today all did a good job. I'm not sure what he could have offered that would have changed the game for us.
Turley didn't punch anyone. He made one tackle where he ended up off balance and fell onto their player arms first.
