I still take pleasure in the fact that I took my son to his first gig at the Astoria as a present for doing well in his GCSE’s back in 2004 - The Killers, supported by Death From Above 1979. No-one knew The Killers back then, so he’s gathered much kudos from that.
I am horrified by this concept of taking your kids to their first gig.

If, as I suspect, that was the Blue For You tour I was also at that gig!! I'd have been 19 then.

First gig for me was Family at the Caird Hall, Dundee in 1971 (aged 14). Was blown away particularly by Roger Chapman's voice. So much so that in February I will be seeing him for the 31st time. Shepherds Bush, Feb 2nd. Will prob do Stevenage away the day before.

Got into acid house/warehouses quite young, so didn't really get the opportunity to do big concerts.
Think the first thing I saw done 'Live' was Adamski, in The Crypt, which if I remember correctly was under a Church in New Cross area.

First arena thing I did was Depeche Mode at Crystal Palace in 1993, backed by Sisters of Mercy, the fans of whom were most sniffy due to Mode's tinkly-bonk pop past.

When you go through the list of groups or individuals that were their first concerts it's quite an list of names and a who's who of the pop world.

Let's keep going it's really interesting.

That would have been th Devotional Tour. Dave Gahan had gone proper bonkers by then, and sincerely believed he was Jesus. Great album, which was the last of their so-called big 4.

I went to their Spirit tour a couple of years back at the Olympic Stadium. They still had it. Brought my Son along, who would have been 12 at the time, so that was his first gig.

I wish it was something edgy, like an early Sex Pistols gig, or if I’d seen Bowie in his pomp.

But no, it was Gary Glitter at Mile End Odeon in ‘74 when I was 13. It was good too. He may be an awful paedo, but he was a cracking showman.

Exactly that tour, Dunners. Gahan was a twirling ball of hair and sweat, who looked like he weighed about 7 stone. The stage was a two-tier affair, with Gahan on the bottom tier going mad, whilst (in keeping with the band) the other 3 'stood there' on the upper tier.

I enjoyed the 'Songs of Faith' album enormously, as well as the preceding 3. Think I bought one more after that (Ultra?), but confess I lost interest in the band from about '95. Would definitely go and see them in a gig environment again, though.

The first 'gig' - was Roy Orbison with my mother! Late 70's, when i was just out of shorts and that remember. But mum was always taking us to different concerts.

The first proper gig, i had seen bands in pubs and at the Tramshed, was UFO - 82 Hammersmith Odeon.

Yeah, I’m couldn’t conceive of going to a gig with my dad either. Thing is, I was going anyway. We have a similar taste in music and have done plenty of gigs together.

Think my Mum & Dad took me to see the Incredible String Band as kid. They're a Psychedelic Scottish hippy folk group that sing about minotaurs, magic wee hings, iron stones and other sh*t.

The Who in Oct 1975 at the Empire Pool Wembley. I was 16 at the time.
They were great, a few years before Keith Moon died.
