Wellens out chanting at Burton
Sad to report a slanging match behind the goal yesterday between pro and anti Wellens factions following some fairly throaty "Wellens out" chanting towards the end of the match.
I can't be sure if that chant was directed at Richie or Charlie but it was sad to hear.

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
It’s mentioned on the Time for a change thread -
“Was at Burton away yesterday and at the end of the game was expressing my frustrations and saying it was time for Wellens to go. Didn’t realise that his brother and dad were stood in front of me and overheard and his brother started having a proper go at me when he heard that
. Was saying that we would be nowhere without him and to not forget where he’s taken us from/to, and that he would also get a million pound pay out so we’d be doing him a favour if we did sack him. He also said we couldn’t get anyone better to replace him. The whole interaction was rather odd.”
A £1m payoff? If I was sacked from my job for not doing if properly I sure as sh*t wouldn’t get my contract paid off. It’s bizarre how this only works in football.

I guess Richie's brother is too old to be offered a playing contract with Orient.

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
Orient fans have been pretty patient all round. Wellens spent most of the goodwill he built up with the dire performances last year. He’s burning what’s left when he starts his son, and for what benefit?
I would like RW to stay and am happy enough with CW as a low cost squad option but he is too stubborn to change so I expect this cycle to continue until a frustrating end for all parties in December.
In the past we would not have got a replacement of his standard but we have a much better chance with today’s squad and owners who stick by the manager.

This is probably off the back that it's been rumoured that there is a buy out clause of £1m if any club were to be interested in Richie's services.Stowaway wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 11:49 pm It’s mentioned on the Time for a change thread -

Might even be that if they were to sack him now, then his remaining contract would equal that amount (believe he's got just under three years left).
It may well be the very reason that whilst we hover above relegation then he'll stay, because the pay off and then having to appoint someone else will be expensive.

His contract is until the end of next season. Don't buy the idea that we'd have to pay him more than the remainder of his contract if we were getting rid, and he'd have to be on over 10k a week for the rest of his contract to be worth £1m.

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
I remember reading somewhere that Matt Porter said there was a clause in managers contracts now limiting their pay off to a years salary. So unless Wellens is on £1m p.a, (which I can't see), then it would cost us a years money.Fellowo wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 2:47 pmThis is probably off the back that it's been rumoured that there is a buy out clause of £1m if any club were to be interested in Richie's services.Stowaway wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 11:49 pm It’s mentioned on the Time for a change thread -

This sounds nowhere near as entertaining as Billy Beal's dad kicking off at Barnet circa 2000.Stowaway wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 11:49 pm It’s mentioned on the Time for a change thread -

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
Why would his brother and dad be trapping off about a £1m payoff if it wasn’t true?
I’m of course assuming these allegations are true.

Yes it could be argued he was a ‘useless midget c*nt’ but you can understand why he took exception to those comments.Father Ted Crilly wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 4:17 pmThis sounds nowhere near as entertaining as Billy Beal's dad kicking off at Barnet circa 2000.Stowaway wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 11:49 pm It’s mentioned on the Time for a change thread -

I imagine the quote of £1m pay out was the release clause amount in his contract not his pay off fee.Hoover Attack wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 4:43 pm Why would his brother and dad be trapping off about a £1m payoff if it wasn’t true?

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
Wellens contract was about right for a bloke who'd dragged the club from the arse end of League Two to the verge of the Championship. However, it's not so appropriate for a bloke who came within a single game from undoing most of that work.Hoover Attack wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 4:43 pm Why would his brother and dad be trapping off about a £1m payoff if it wasn’t true?

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
I want Richie to stay but he really opens himself up to criticism by starting Charlie and leaving him on when he offers little and the team are struggling. I’ve posted before that it really doesn’t work for any Manager to have his son playing in his team unless he’s far better than his team mates and things are going well, which isn’t the case at the moment.
Sam Ling had the same issue a few years ago.

Re: Wellens out chanting at Burton
Can't see any evidence that fans have made it "personal". Criticising a manager of a club you support and expressing the notion he should move on, is not personal, it's an opinion/critique.Bandy Legs wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 6:35 pm Hope " THESE FANS " Get banned by the club.

Why would a fan get banned for that?
I'm not party as to the manner of it; but neither are you because you don't go to games.
If anything, the Wellens brother/dad made it worse by throwing out (alleged) contract information, which is unedifying, not relevant to the appraisal of his current ability/performance, and also not fair on RW (their brother/son) and represents RW's personal financial information.

At any other club, the fans would be dishing out much more vitriol at the manager. Wellens is lucky that Orient have an unusual patient and placid fanbase.
