Players that we know are good and rated whilst in L1. But he wanted them for the Championship....Rich Tea Wellin wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 11:37 amIsn’t the point that he identified three players that we know are good and that we rate?Hoover Attack wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 11:20 amCurrie was loaned out for the whole first season, didn't play for them once. He did manage 30 games last season during their relegation campaign.
El Miz was great for us, they bought him from Ipswich, he wasn't great for them so they off loaded him after a season, presumably at a loss.
Unless he was planning ahead for their relegation.

Thinking about things more.... one of Martin Lings last long videos where he gave his summary of the transfer window showed a tired , not young person, who if you watch the video, even forgets the name(s) of some the player(s) he brought to the club in that very window!!!. We need a much younger modern person for this role. Regarding Wellens: if he stays, he is on his last chance as last seasons performances used up a lot of his credit. I actually like him but he is not as strong as he was this time last year so if the club (new owner) wants to put a new younger DOF in charge, there is not a lot Wellens can do especially as we only just avoided relegation long after Ling had left. In fact you could say that if last season had gone on for another week or two, we would have gone down. A total new rebuild is needed and the new person from Oxford will also come in with a list of potential replacements for Wellens should things quickly go wrong. But he is coming and I think it will be announced anyday. I think the fact this is now on our forum may force Orient to announce this sooner than they wanted to. Again, these are all just my thoughts.

I'm sure Richie will love working with someone 15 years his junior, fresh in the door, who is already planning who will replace him...Leytondave wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 12:25 pm Thinking about things more.... one of Martin Lings last long videos where he gave his summary of the transfer window showed a tired , not young person, who if you watch the video, even forgets the name(s) of some the player(s) he brought to the club in that very window!!!. This is how football works sometimes in 2026.

Richie is the boss, and will remain so, don't worry about that. No-one at the Club can touch him now - that's half the problem.
PS Waldron's reputation at Oxford is not good. Learning this has made me feel this appointment is more plausible. FFS Ling.

Currie can't get in the team.
They got relegated.
Sounds ideal.

Would love to see Currie back with us.

We need a right back. We don't need a left back. Priorities.moonwalk19 wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:24 pmHoover Attack wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 11:20 amCurrie was loaned out for the whole first season, didn't play for them once. He did manage 30 games last season during their relegation campaign.

The fans don't rate him - view is he underperformed the budget, and his signature signing (Siriki Dembele) was a calamity.Houdini wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:23 pmNot good in what sense?OyinbO wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:09 pm Richie is the boss, and will remain so, don't worry about that. Likely to be playing Championship football next season, as he was a rare bright performer for them.moonwalk19 wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:24 pmHoover Attack wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 11:20 amCurrie was loaned out for the whole first season, didn't play for them once. Re: Ed Waldron would be my choice for director of football
Mehmet Scholl described current Rangers manager Danny Rohl as a "pest with an iPad". Although spending by far the most money in Scotland, Danny Boy guided Rangers to a creditable third in a two horse race, so Richie might be wise to avoid these sortsHoover Attack wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 11:16 am Richie is a proper old school football person.
I can't see him having much truck with some kid with a laptop who has never kicked a ball in his life...

Re: Ed Waldron would be my choice for director of football
Can't quite believe I'm talking myself into the plausibility of this, but... aside from the fact that he is freshly relegated and poorly thought of by fans of his current club... it also fits because his CV screams "the Invisible McLoone replacement" even if the job title might say something else (which would be the thing to induce him to switch). Agree with you that there's no way in a million years Wellens would kowtow to this fella.Hoover Attack wrote: Wed Jun 03, 2026 12:23 pm Direcctor of Football means Richie will report in to this kid, right?

Thanks, Ed.
At least we'll have a new scapegoat for the inevitable car crash of a transfer window. We were getting bored slagging off Lingy.

Quite correct, people can slate Ling all they like, but Non-league with no players to League One will take some beating.

Will be a breath of fresh air to have someone young in the building in that role
