FFS, Ridley. :(((

What a mess of a film. Some okay bits, but this really should have been so much better. A wasted opportunity which, I'm disappointed to say, isn't worth your time or money at the cinema.

Sure, watching on a smaller screen at home will mean not experiencing some of the more cinematic moments, but IMO they simply are not good enough to justify the effort.
I watched this again last night just to see if it was as bad as I recalled.

It wasn't. It was worse. Not only does it fail to deliver in any historically accurate sense, but the battle scenes are actually pretty crap. I've seen far better CGI efforts in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I watched the Director's Cut of this. It adds an additional 47 minutes to the running time, and includes scenes that do help to explain a lot of the events in more detail. But, ultimately, it doesn't transform the film into anything remarkable.

If you haven't watched it yet and intend to do so, then I'd suggest the Director's Cut over the original release. But you'll still be disappointed (only less than you otherwise would have been).
Napoleon died 204 years ago today. I may just mark the occasion by giving this turgid cackfest another watch.

The White Lotus S3- disappointingly dull, apart from Aimee Lou Woods jiggle.

MobLand.

Very Guy Ritchie. Silly and fun. Some ludicrous accents (I'm looking at you, Helen and Pierce).

Tom Hardy being Tom Hardy.

Slightly frustrated now that I've just about caught up & have to wait week by week.

In preparation for the upcoming Top of the Popes, I've done my homework by watching The Two Popes and Conclave. I missed both when they first came out, but thought they were brilliant in their distinctive ways.

Rest assured that I'm now fully expert and ready for the boardin debate.

Correct.

Something incredible has happened. Disney have gone and made the best Star Wars thingy ever, by mistake. It's actually so good that you can not be into Star Wars and still think it's great. It's just brilliant telly.

Got round to seeing Heretic, enjoyed the dismantling of religion, those scenes should be shown in classrooms around the country, if its true of course. Thought it lost its way after that.

1883 - prequel to Yellowstone. Ok I suppose. Tried Yellowstone but just hated everyone in it.

Yeah for 45 minutes it’s fantastic, then it’s just bog standard attempts at scares. It must have been hard for it to not run out of steam, but really the entire substance of the film was the battle of wits. Was talking about it with my wife after watching - it was a bit of a weird one because everything Hugh Grant says about religion is a legitimate critique, but how the film builds from there just doesn’t really work

You’ve genuinely picked the wrong thing to do that about. Even you would f***ing love it.

If I said that it’s a beautifully written, beautifully acted limited series that’s about how fascism takes hold, how truth is twisted to create a public perception to justify atrocities, and how small acts of resistance are crucial in resisting authoritarian regimes, and if I said that the second series is highly, highly relevant to geopolitics in 2025 and that there’s a politician in it who you would 100% cheer for when she gives a speech that could easily be directed at Trump as directed at the person it’s directed at, would that pique your interest?

As Dunners says, this is top, top quality stuff
