Kyrell Lisbie.
Kevin's son, scored 17 goals for Braintree this season after moving up from step 4 to the national league is on the verge of signing for Peterborough United, he's been quite impressive when I have seen him.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Why do a lot of these fairly decent young players invariably sign for Peterborough. What are our scouts being paid for?

We finished 12 places ahead of Peterborough this season. Obviously our recruitment isn't that bad.

Seen him a few times as well (and his brother). Nothing has suggested we should be taking a punt on either.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 11:31 pm Kevin's son, scored 17 goals for Braintree this season after moving up from step 4 to the national league is on the verge of signing for Peterborough United, he's been quite impressive when I have seen him.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Not sure the fact we finished above Posh is a good reason not to look at him. Peterborough have for years had a much better and more lucrative recruitment system than us signing players like this. If we are looking at younger players we can develop and sell on Lisbie is the type of player we should be looking at, 23 years old first season in the National league and 17 goals in a struggling team bags of potential.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 9:35 am We finished 12 places ahead of Peterborough this season. Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
He's 22 later this year. I didn't believe he'd scored 17 goals either so checked on soccerbase and it's 13 league goals. Still a decent return from a wide man.
He's not exactly an unknown. Our scouts will have looked at him and decided he's not worth the gamble. I'd be inclined to agree.
Peterboro operate a different model -for every player they sell on to a Championship club for a £1m+, how many of these signings do they make that they end up releasing?
Good luck to him if he does go there, of course.

Dad Kevin is very proud of his 17 goals.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Yes 22 in December 23 was a typo. 13 League and 4 Cup goals = 17.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 10:46 am He's 22 later this year. I didn't believe he'd scored 17 goals either so checked on soccerbase and it's 13 league goals. Still a decent return from a wide man.

You say Peterborough sell on for a £million+ and discard a lot of signings - difference is we never sign players from non league clubs to sell on let alone for a £million - nothing ventured nothing gained - I trust my opinion on players and he's going to be a good player for them.
We looked at Kone at Wycombe and never signed him either not a great decision, I think someone decided it was too much bother getting his registration through as he was basically a refuge and needed a special clearance to join a pro club, Wycombe pushed on with it and have and will benefit.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Yes I did he should be proud, Kyrell signed for Braintree from Cray Valley Paper Mills in step 4 and made a fantastic impression and won the clubs player of the season, IMHO he will only get better at a professional club like Posh.- I think it's difficult for Kevin trying to strike a balance but I know he loved his time with us, but Charlton was the pinnacle of his career a great servant to both clubs..Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 10:52 amDid you watch the Charlton play off preview as well?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 11:31 pm Kevin's son, scored 17 goals for Braintree this season after moving up from step 4 to the national league is on the verge of signing for Peterborough United, he's been quite impressive when I have seen him.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Do Posh make serious money from their strategy?
I heard they get these non league players because they pay top money. Add in wages over the length of the contract and if it doesn’t pan out it’s an expensive mistake
Can’t really fault our recruitment this year, finishing 6th with a 15th or 16th budget, not too many clubs i, if any, will have managed that level of outperformance.
Our recruitment team should be getting all the awards this season, stunning job. Ok, off to a dodgy start but can’t get them all 100%

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
People make out like identifying non league players who are good enough to make the step up is a simple case of hauling our scouts to Braintree. If it was that easy, everyone at our level would be doing it.
You get the other complaint which is that we should be finding more gems from discarded prem youth. Both approaches are gambles that take up limited budget.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
We had both Kyrell and his brother Kyreece in our academy at one stage, It's always a bit hit and miss isn't it - took us two months to give Jordan Brown a contract when he was on trial with us he's now one of our best players.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:14 am People make out like identifying non league players who are good enough to make the step up is a simple case of hauling our scouts to Braintree. Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Posh don't pay massive wages their wage bill last season was I believe less than ours they know that most of the signings they make from lower levels wont make it but it's part of their strategy, they only have to unearth one or two gems and they are quids in - it must work for them or else they would not persevere with it. We have recruited well this season our use of the loan market has been the best I can ever remember but we have to do that again next season, it's great we bring in these players and develop them but at the end of the day it's only a short term benefit for us. Lets hope we can unearth a few more Ethan's.PKM wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:12 am Do Posh make serious money from their strategy?

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
Always going to be players that don't make it but they also signed hector for £300k and turned down £3million from Watford for him (that didn't work out too well for them did it- he's walking away for free this summer) But they have an eye for a signing.aylesburyos wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:33 am Posh model seems to be dropping off. Using the loan market makes your money go further than it otherwise would. We're getting use of players we would otherwise be unable to afford.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:44 amWe have recruited well this season our use of the loan market has been the best I can ever remember but we have to do that again next season, it's great we bring in these players and develop them but at the end of the day it's only a short term benefit for us.

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
January 2013 Daggers sold Dwight Gayle to Posh for initially £500k, with add ons.
July 2013 Posh sold Dwight to Crystal Palace for £4.5m.
He is currently banging them in for Hibs,

Proven pathway to bigger/higher clubs. Nice selling point.Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 9:31 am Why do a lot of these fairly decent young players invariably sign for Peterborough. What are our scouts being paid for?
Hopefully the way our loanees have generally all improved this season will make prem clubs more keen to lend us their younger players.

Kone at Wycombe was the gutting one, cost would've been 0, been playing down the road for years, Wycombe turned down six mil in Jan

Re: Kyrell Lisbie.
The U23 discarded youth route is the way, lol at Galbraith as prime example. Those players come in ready to play men's football and need the run of games and guidance from Richie to shineMistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 11:14 am You get the other complaint which is that we should be finding more gems from discarded prem youth. Whether you go for the NL rough diamond or higher league youth the one route that isn't providing much useful output for the first team is the academy. Much rather we focus on the Brentford model and find a few more Abdulai-esque players to work with instead.

I agree with your conclusion but I'm not so sure they come in ready to play men's football after playing Prem U23s....gshaw wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 8:02 pmThe U23 discarded youth route is the way, lol at Galbraith as prime example. However, if you're going to play football the way Richie wants us to, you've got to have a first touch. You can build a 21/22 year old up physically (and mentally) ready for senior football, you ain't improving your technical ability at that age. Bringing in Galbraiths, O'Neills, Abdulais etc is absolutely the way to go.
