Orient Fatigue?
Realise I'll probably get abused for this but has anyone taken some time away from the O's in order to refresh their passion and interest?
I had a season ticket between the ages of 7 and 13, became a teenager and hanging out with my mates at the cinema became preferable to sitting in the cold watching us lose in Division 3.
I've been going to 35+ games a season again for over ten years and I feel exhausted. Even last season, whilst I enjoyed it, I didnt have that passion that i had a few years ago. Some of my mates dont go any more and most games I find myself just sitting there, not really enjoying any of it. I think it's probably due to the fact that we were so close of achieving my dream of seeing us in the championship, to falling out of the league and playing sh*t week in, week out.
As most know, I've also have worries and differences in thinking to how the club should be run, and some mis-management that frustrates me. But really, I think i've got Orient fatigue. I've got a ST and tickets for a few of the away games coming up, but as of right now, I dont want to really go.
Anyone else ever had anything similar and did a break help?

Re: Orient Fatigue?
Define the long run. I’ve been going 60 years and can sympathise with the OP. Watching Orient for me has become a bad habit that I can’t break. Though once or twice it’s been a close run thing. Orient till I die? About right.

Re: Orient Fatigue?
In the depths of the Italian clown's era when the team was almost entirely under 18's, there were a few games when Mrs Nes and I couldn't stomach a 170 mile round trip from deepest, darkest Suffolk just to see our youngsters beaten. If that is fatigue, yes, we have had it.

Re: Orient Fatigue?
Not exactly fatigue but life (late teens discovering girls & gigs, having a kid, living away from the south east & working abroad) has got in the way of attending regularly at times. Currently going through one of those phases due to extensive leisure travel.
And despite having a wider interest in football generally, a fondness for groundhopping, plus holding a candle for other non-league/foreign clubs I like to see from time to time too - that stops me getting too obsessive about going to watch E10s finest - Orient is and always will be MY team. I always check their result and match details first and these days keep up to date on how things are going during games on the phone.

Re: Orient Fatigue?
Not alone AW.
Bar a couple of year period in the early 90's where I did a few homes / away's a season and didn't bother with a season ticket, I've been going pretty full on doing 30+ games a season since the late 80s.
Orient on a saturday is a family thing now with Mrs FTC and Junior FTC and last season saw us do 40 games which was brilliant given the title win yet for some reason this season feels like a complete trial. Missed Cheltenham due to holiday but even since I've been back, I'm finding it hard to be really interested. Sat through Saturday's game with complete detachment and still havent bothered getting tickets for Col U away even though it's an easy away trip.

I have a Col U ticket, let me know if you change your mind
I dont know whether Justin also has something to do with it. Maybe. I find the experience of going to Orient a bit depressing all round, which i never thought would happen

Re: Orient Fatigue?
I regularly fall in and out of love with football, but my passion for Orient always remains. There are times when I am more, or less, excited about the prospect of going to games, but I always keep going and it tends to fluctuate naturally. In all honesty, right now is one of those times where I am less interested in the prospect of going- but it isn't anything to do with results, or club issues.
I think the key is building things around the games that are not result dependent, and trying to separate the day from the result, like going with your mates, going to the pub before/after ect.

You probably wouldn’t have been writing this if the team hadn’t put in such a horrific performance last SaturdayApple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:37 am Realise I'll probably get abused for this but has anyone taken some time away from the O's in order to refresh their passion and interest?

Re: Orient Fatigue?
Pretty much what everyone else has said. The interest level varies over the years depending on your circumstances with family/work etc and to a lesser extent on how we're doing. I've had spells of doing 40+ games a season, doing ridiculous away journeys on Tuesday nights, and I've also missed entire seasons. I have no idea how the people I used to see at all the away games back in the late 90s/early 00's are still doing that 20 years later - it's both incredibly impressive and massively mental in equal measure.
Losing Justin has definitely had an impact on everyone, how could it not. We all had so much to look forward to and that appears to have been taken away from us.
Or maybe it's seeing the other podcast ladz go from strength to strength that's really hurting?

Your choice of language is key here - I would never refer to us in the third person like that.

I've been feeling it for about 2 years. This year hasn't been great and saturday was the closest ive come to leaving at half-time for a very long time, but its been going on a while.MrB wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 10:57 amYou probably wouldn’t have been writing this if the team hadn’t put in such a horrific performance last SaturdayApple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 8:37 am Realise I'll probably get abused for this but has anyone taken some time away from the O's in order to refresh their passion and interest?

Re: Orient Fatigue?
I was an occasional attendee for many years, but a ST holder from the 2006 season until the first year under Beelzebub. That season really drained me, and I just stopped going mid-way through as I could see what was happening to our club.
I then rediscovered a lot of things I preferred to do with my time. I also realised that going to most home games and a few away games is a huge impact on other aspects of your life (friends and family). It completely disrupts your day and theirs.
I’ve since done a lot more travelling, bought a place abroad, started flying lessons and taken up other interests. I’d struggle to find the time to enjoy all of this if attending Orient games was a priority. I still attend a few games each season and keep up to date with all Orient news, but I’m not of the mind-set to going back to Orient defining my schedule.
It’s important to know and accept that your priorities will change throughout your life. So don’t beat yourself up about not wanting to go right now. Do what you want. And if in the future you find that interest being rekindled then that’s fine too.

Re: Orient Fatigue?
Have lost interest in watching other teams on tv but still enjoy reading about football & listening on the radio. Try to not let the O's result not get you too down/ too euphoric if you attend as there are much more important things in life. When I was younger it took me a weekend to get over a defeat but now not that bothered. There is little that we as fans can do

Re: Orient Fatigue?
As most people have commented on this thread have eluded to, 'Orient fatigue' has very little to do with results. We can be winning every week, and I might become disinterested in the same way that the opposite can also be true. The key is how emotionally you react to the result. I'm going through a 'low' phase with Orient at the moment, so I took Saturday's result pretty well, in the same way that the week before I wasn't so excited about our good result. Take a similar result last season against Salford and I reacted really badly and it ruined my weekend.Howling Mad Murdock wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 4:05 pm Can't have.We had a great season last season.Knew this season was going to be tougher.
