Before they get cancelled, I'd like to say I liked their music and found that film quite funny.

Re: Kneecap
It's funny that the usual "free speech warriors" are the ones who are most triggered by them.

Re: Kneecap
I still haven't watched the film, but have been enjoying their album. It's good to see that the tradition of popstars saying stuff to cause outrage, and it duly causing outrage, is still going strong. And long may it continue. Nothing new here.
However, I did snigger at their statement. They've clearly had the legal implications behind some of their more provocative comments explained to them by lawyers. Despite footage of them giving a big shout out to Hamas and Hezbollah, they have snuck in a "we do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah" comment into their statement.
And, a few more chuckles followed when I read some of the comments bellow their statement, with activists turning against them because they were denying support for hams and Hezbollah.

Re: Kneecap
And so it goes - being outrageous for attention ends badly. We've seen that before. Including on here.

"We cosplay as paramilitaries, named our band after a technique for attacking civilians, supported Hamas and Hezbollah, brandished the collected works of a terrorist leader, and told British people to kill their local MPs by mistake."

Re: Kneecap
In the short term they'll lose £000's in appearance fees for mainstream musical festivals. However, this latest kerfuffle has increased their monthly listeners on Spotify by a whopping 100K to 1.1million. So, that's an extra £200 a month.

Re: Kneecap
Got to laugh at the irony of them being cancelled by the British government. How many Irish have they killed over the years? How many children in Iraq and Afghanistan died at their hands? Not to mention what’s happening in Gaza with the support of the government

Re: Kneecap
Enjoyed the claim that "kill your MP" was "taken out of all context". Whenever anyone says this, they never actually follow up and explain exactly what the context was/is.

Re: Kneecap
Good there’s still bands willing to use their music and fame to highlight important issues and hold people in power to account. No wonder everyone wants to shut them down.

Re: Kneecap
Seriously though, this isn’t “a band using their fame to highlight important issues”; this is a band who mouth off about contentious political stuff to an audience who laps it up, who have backtracked the minute sh*t got real

I wouldn’t say they’ve backtracked I’d say they put a few people right on what they are unsure of.CEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 7:24 pm Seriously though, this isn’t “a band using their fame to highlight important issues”; this is a band who mouth off about contentious political stuff to an audience who laps it up, who have backtracked the minute sh*t got real
Obviously said some mad stuff which they shouldn’t have said but I agree with them that people make out words are more aggressive than a genocide. Even if you take the worst thing they said about killing an mp, is that worse than actually killing thousands of kids and arming the people doing it. I’ll answer for you - no it isn’t. Outrage is directed in weird places. Maybe cos it’s the easy thing to do? I don’t know

Re: Kneecap
...and you promptly issue a statement whereby you brazenly lie that you never said the thing or it was taken out of "context".
At least in the olden days, when bands kicked out at the man, they stuck to their principles.

The Pogues stood firm when they faced a backlash and radio ban for their support for the Birmingham six and Guildford four.
Re: Kneecap
Labour MP, David Taylor, has condemned the Belfast-based rap group 'Kneecap' for allegedly calling for the murder of Tory MPs whilst also taking a swipe at Jeremy Corbyn. Stand firm, Jezza.
