Iberian blackout
A massive power outage has left Spain, Portugal and parts of southern France without any power.
Over 50million people have suddenly been thrown into the pre-electrical age. No access to cash or payments, electronic door entry systems are down, no rail services, no internet, limited mobile phones services, no TV, no traffic lights...
People are just milling about the streets with nothing else to do except drink. It's sounds a bit like Glasgow.
Nobody knows what has happened. The only thing I can find is a rather vague comment that it is due to a "rare atmospheric phenomenon" affecting the Spanish electricity grid.
And there's no clear indication of when power will be restored. I'm reading anything between another 6 or 10 hours and up to a week)!

They're not going to try and pin this on a 13 year old white boy too, are they?

Re: Iberian blackout
Apparently it was some sort of freak weather conditions to do with temperature, frequencies, vibrations and that kind of thing.
It's all very convoluted and complicated so I'm going to stick with the more straightforward and easily understandable explanation of "It was the Russians wot did it"

Re: Iberian blackout
Why would he pick on Spain and Portugal? Nah, it's more likely that this is the act of their more traditional enemy - us. It's the modern day equivalent of Blighty sinking a few of their galleons whilst off to pillage far flung corners of the world for treasures and young maidens. The good 'ol days.

We've got more Admirals than we do warships. I suspect we may overstretch on this campaign.Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 10:39 amI reckon we sail over there afterwards and restart the opium wars.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 10:31 amWhat about China?Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 9:11 am Why would he pick on Spain and Portugal? Britain’s electricity grid operator is investigating unexplained power plant failures that hit the UK’s system hours before Spain and Portugal were plunged into blackouts.
Control room staff at the National Energy System Operator (Neso) observed unusual activity on Sunday that saw the power frequency shift unexpectedly in the early morning and the evening.

After learning of this event he spent the whole night awake thinking how he didn't think of doing something like this...

Portugal is England's oldest ally. The then named "Treaty of Windsor" alliance was signed in 1386.Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 9:11 am Why would he pick on Spain and Portugal?
