Adolescence.
Wow. I'm going to need some time to process that. And some therapy. Wow.

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
The performance from that kid in episode 3 is haunting. He did well enough in episode 1, but I wasn't prepared for ep3. Apparently, he's never acted before. As for Stephen Graham's final scene at the end of ep4.......
I'm now searching up how they filmed each episode and the technical skill and coordination needed to pull off such incredible cinematography. Everyone else may as well not bother buying stamps to send in award nominations for the year ahead.

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
The way it was shot and acted was highly impressive
I found the plot so so and predictable though and feel it’s a bit overrated. It hit key points that are topical/zeitgeisty right now though which explains the rave reviews.
I appreciate I am in a minority of opinion here.

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
That's fair enough, but the online radicalisation of kids and young men is a thing right now and this is about as good an effort to tap into that as I have seen. What I liked about the plot was that it didn't try and be overly clever, or land on a contrived explanation. It simply told a story through multiple perspectives and allowed for the viewer to be left with plenty of unanswered questions (which is what real life is like):Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:47 am The way it was shot and acted was highly impressive

- The day of the arrest and the contrast between disorientation on the family with the mundanity of process with some of the officers.
- The school setting (possibly my least favourite episode) showing the range of reactions, the varying degree of competence and interest from the teaching staff, the sense of chaos...
- The episode between the kid and the councillor, when you got to see a side to him that his family never knew existed.
- The rest of the family trying to get on with their life in the aftermath of tragedy (that was a very nice t-shirt he got for his birthday)

He plays one character in everything he does, but he plays it very well. Nothing wrong with that of course, but he just doesn't have the range to be considered a "great".

The actor, 51, was investigated by the FA for calling the match official a “fat t**t” and a “f*****g Teletubby” while he was a spectator at the non-league game.

Plane watches:
Conclave - 8 enjoyed it. Quite funny in a weird way. Ending was…interesting.
Joker 2 - 4 - proper dull. Felt like they pushed the musical element so they didn’t have to think of an actual story.
Dumb and Dumber - 10 - just a classic where every joke lands. Just what I needed bumping all over the place over the Indian Ocean

Gonna watch Dumb and Dumber myself as its relative subtlety will be a real palate cleanser after the most transparent “Look at me I’ve gone on a plane somewhere cool!” for a long time

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
Watched the first 2 episodes of The Australian Wars on BBC4. Grim and unsettling. We really do have a dark past that a lot of people would prefer to gloss over. Ep 2 was so depressing I've parked the last one for a week.

The Leopard on Netflix...astonishingly good, music performances, setting etc. Best thing I have seen for a very long time.

Horizon: an American saga chapter one- I watched two hours of this and I've no desire to finish it. Its a kevin costner western and its all over the place. Too many characters and I'm really not sure what the story is. Could probably be edited down by an hour.

Couldn’t agree more. Doesn’t know what it is trying to do or say. And there’s another one coming out!Long slender neck wrote: ↑Tue Mar 18, 2025 8:56 pm Horizon: an American saga chapter one- I watched two hours of this and I've no desire to finish it. Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
Went to see A Complete Unknown at the cinema and liked it a lot. 8/10. Recommend.
Was always interested in the betrayal aspect of Dylan going electric and the scenes with Al Lomax, Dylan, and Pete Seeger explained that.

Adolescence- two episodes in.
The little sh*t! I'd have wrung his neck if I were Stephen Graham.

Finished watching it. Superficial at best tackling the issues.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 2:33 pm Adolescence- two episodes in.

What the effinfeff was that opening scene breaking down doors and pointing guns at children. It's not freekin' Gaza.
Wouldn't recommend.
